Anyone know what kind of compensation are we in line for?

skinsfan is right, we only have the right to match, no compensation is due here because Johnson was an undrafted free agent, therefore there's no pick to compensate for.

I'm guessing BJ is gone since no one is stupid enough to offer him something the Skins can match easily.....either that or the saints think the Skins have no need for him and is expendable.

He's gone, I like the guy but it's an easy way for us to get rid of our backfield. We have the Rock anyways!

That stinks. Oh well, he's a solid player, but I won't be sad to see him go.

I wouldn't be surprised if we match. BJ seems like a Gibbs type of back. He's got decent hands and is a pretty good blocker, he could fit in well at the H-back role.

Plus he's been a valuable member of the special teams unit and don't think that Gibbs won't take that into account, that's where we would feel his loss the most.

Of course alot depends on the type of offer the Saints gave him. I can't imagine it being anything too outrageous.

I agree with Matty. Of course it depends on the offer, but I wouldn't be at all surprised to see the Redskins match it. He is a very much a "Gibbs type player" and could do very well this year with the Skins.

You guys are mostly concentrating on his FB position. Dont forget he was a very good special teams guy...

I would match if its not extraordinary.

BJ may have been a very good special teamer, but you don't take a $2.2 million cap hit for a very good special teamer. BJ was an undrafted free agent, and I'm sure there will be plenty of other undrafted free agents this spring that the Redskins could sign to easily take his place.

Backup fullbacks/special teamers worth a $2.2 million cap hit don't grow on trees... in fact, they don't exist. Backup fullbacks/special teamers were meant to be undrafted free agents making the league minimum. When they start looking for more money than that, you let them go find it, and then you sign yourself another hungry, undrafted free agent and pay him the league minimum to take the other guy's place.

BJ is not Mike Alstott or Jimmy Kleinsasser, nor is he a Mark Kelso or Bill Bates or Brian Mitchell, or any of the other standout special teamers who would have been worth a $2.2 million cap hit. He's done nothing to warrant that kind of attention or money. Let him walk, wish him well, and find yourself another one just like him for a fifth of the price.

We did do it for Chad Morton, but he is more of a threat than B.Johnson.
