Re: Tedy Bruschi Suffers Stroke

It's impossible to tell how this will affect him later in life - my prayers are with his family. It appears he is suffering no lasting effects, but this will change his life.

I'm curious as to whether the Patriots (or any team) will allow him to continue playing regardless of his recovery, considering the liability risks and the financial risks involved in keeping someone who is a retirement risk under contract.

Re: Tedy Bruschi Suffers Stroke

I had an aneurysm last April, didn't go the ER for almost 2 weeks and I'm not suffering any side effects (although my friends and co-workers will tell you otherwise) so I'm sure an NFL player who's in top physical shape has a better chance than most of getting back. The liability issue is the worst part. I don't want anyone to die playing this game.

Re: Tedy Bruschi Suffers Stroke

What a scary situation.

If there's any risk he should hang it up. He's played 9 years, has 3 rings, is probably pretty comfortable financially and above all he has a family.

My best wishes to him. I did know a couple of his family members (when I was in Vegas) and he is a great guy and I do hope they are all ok. Glad to see he is getting out of the hospital. You can't help but root for a guy like that.

In this day and age of the Freddie Mitchell's and Terrell Owens..........Bruschi is a refreshing change of pace.........he seems like a good guy! My prayers are with him for a complete recovery.

Re: Tedy Bruschi Suffers Stroke

Obviously, I hope that he is OK and makes a full recovery and lives out a long and full life.

I really hope that IF the doctors advise him to quit that he listens to them and quits. Many athletes - and football players in particular - have grown up in a set of circumstances where "heroism" and "manhood" are often measured by "playing through the pain". In this case, playing when advised medically not to do that could lead to something really bad.

Now, if the docs say he is "good to go" and can't do any added damage to himself by playing, then I say he shoudl play if he still wants to do that. But if the docs say that he should hang them up, I sincerely hope he will do just that!

I agree completley. Its one thing to maybe risk your leg like T.O.; so that maybe you might be limping around for a while or somthing. However, I have to assume if he goes back out there against Dr's orders, it could be life risking. I think he would make the right choice, hes got three rings and is set up with the $$. I hope everything works out for him.

Undergoing Surgery to Repair his Heart

I didn't feel like starting a new thread about this, but I can't imagine what he and his family are going through right now after dealing with him having a stroke within a week of the superbowl and now having to have a hole in his heart repaired. He has been a huge force behind the energy and spirit of the Pat's defense but I honestly can't see him playing after all of this.

Re: Tedy Bruschi Suffers Stroke

I agree with his decision to sit out the season, if I were him I wouldn't take any chances, he has a family to think about........

Re: Tedy Bruschi Suffers Stroke

I agree as well. Great player, but cant risk his long term health, he has already accomlished everything he needs too. Shouldnt risk it, even though its hard to not do somthing you love.
