Recieving/Blocking TE

I don't know how many of u saw any UVA games this year but they had a TE who was pretty awesome with not only his catching abilities but also his blocking. Heath Miller is 6'5 and about 250 lbs. If we were to trade our pick down maybe even just a spot or 2, pick up taylor, winslow, or a d-lineman or trade down again, I was wondering who would be opposed to picking up Miller in the 2nd or 3rd round. I know we have chamberlain and he does have talent but he needs to be in shape and I honestly don't know if he will be by camp. Plus miller would be cheaper, I think a couple years younger, and he is skilled like I said earlier in not only catching but blocking. I think he compares well to frank wychek in abilities and his physical frame. just a thought to throw out there.

Don't know much about him, maybe someone with an insider account can post his scouting record, I for one would like to see it.

Personally I think we have a great talent in Robert Royal. He is still pretty rough but from what I saw he has the heart and is a very good receiving TE. I'd like to see him get some play time at least in pre season!

I was actually thinking the same thing, is Heath Miller going to be available in this years draft? I think he is an underclassman so he would have had to declared early...

Scouts, Inc on Insider doesn't have a take on Miller, but they do have one on the Hokies' Keith Willis, who is their 14th-rated TE on the board:

Keith Willis

TE | (6'5", 260, 4.97) | VIRGINIA TECH | COLLEGE STATS
By Scouts Inc.
Grade: 46
Comments: Has soft hands, can catch the ball away from his frame and can make spectacular catches. Shows some burst coming out of his cuts and is an adequate route-runner. Has good body control and can adjust to poorly thrown balls. Gets upfield quickly, has good athletic ability and can be productive after the catch. Shows some awareness and does an adequate job of selling his blocks before releasing off play-action. Is tall, has long arms and is capable of winning jump balls downfield. Has deceptive speed and flashes the ability to get down the seam. Works to finish his blocks once locked onto defenders and has strength to sustain when he is in good position and works to finish. Works hard in the weight room and has added bulk as well as strength. Is a tough player who plays through pain. Willis is inconsistent and has yet to approach his potential. Doesn't explode into his blocks, doesn't play with a mean streak and at times appears to take plays off when he is a blocker on the backside. He must play with better leverage or defensive ends will push him into the backfield when he comes out of his stance too high. Lacks a powerful initial punch and doesn't always maintain separation from the defender. Appears soft at times and needs to be more of a competitor when the ball is in the air. He has great hands, but loses focus occasionally and drops some passes Willis briefly played for Virginia Tech's basketball team as a freshman, but turned his attention to football in 2000. Willis started his final two seasons at Virginia Tech. He had only eight receptions in '02 and seven receptions in '03 in a run-friendly offensive scheme. Willis has some big-play ability as a receiver and the size and power to be an adequate inline blocker, but he was mostly an underachiever. Part of his problem was his lack of involvement in the passing game. In the Gridiron Classic, we saw how effective he could be when he becomes more of the focus. However, he doesn't appear to play with the same intensity on every snap, he needs to be more physical at the point of attack as a blocker, and he must improve his focus, technique and route-running. Willis still needs a lot of polish, but he is an extremely

I go to uva and i must say Heath Miller is a beast. He's only a sophmore and is NOT entering the draft thanks god. But he'll be one of the hottest propects next year if he declares. He's more of a pass catcher though.

Heath Miller is a great receiving college tight end. He will be spending atleast one more year at UVA. He has great hands and as a former qb knows the game very well. He has very questionable speed for the NFL and needs to become a better blocker. With that said he is his own biggest critic and will work very hard to progress his blocking this year.

I live in Va!

I live in Va! I hate both the Bohoos and the Chokies! Real football is played in the SEC! ACC is for puppies!

Somebody who posted this thread, (no names) doesn't know that we traded our 2nd for Portis, and our 3rd for Brunnell? Are you not paying attention during this off season?

With University of Miami, Virginia Tech and B.C. coming to ACC and Florida State already there, the ACC is going to make the SEC look like a bunch of bitches.

ACC Boys!

ACC boys don't live and breath football like they do in the SEC! When coaches aren't talking football on the radio down there, they are talking spring practice and recruiting. And when the coaches aren't talking, the talking heads are talking. The ACC has nothing on them southern football SEC boys! Yeah, I'll admit the ACC did the right thing bringing in Miami, but vatech is overrated! Boston College will feel like the little redheaded step-sister.

and I wasn't 100% sure what year Miller was in, I just remember them talking about Schaub and him having their last year together so I figured they were both seniors but I guess it was only schaub. schaub's another player I hope doesn't go to a team I hate.

skins009: since u go to uva, how well have u liked the progress of brooks, blackstock, and Parham cuz that is a group of young, nasty, and talented LBs. and is Chris Canty coming out in the draft or staying for his last year? Canty has a huge frame (6'7 I beleive) and with another 10-15 pounds he'd be an absolute beast on the end, even more so than he is now. and did u see the PC for Howie Long's son declaring his intent to go to UVA? He looked taller than his dad.

Your def. right about Chris Canty he's a rising star. If he can put on about 20 pounds I think he'll be a first rounder four sure.
As for the linebackers Brooks is gonna be the next great linebacker. The guy has the awesome combination of size and speed. The same can be said of Blackstock, though he did have a disappointing year. His freshman year kind of got everybodies expectations real high, but he did have kind of drop in performance. I think it was because he put on too much weight to fast. He's gained like 35 pounds in one year. Thats just too much to fast. I think he can have a big year this year though.

yeah cuz in his freshman year didn't blackstock have like 12 sacks or something crazy like that? I think the ACC is going to be fun to watch for the first time in a long time and UVA has a very strong, young team that I hope can suprise some people. I think I even saw them ranked 20th on a ranking done by espn. The only weak link I see them having is at QB with Schaub graduating. I know their back up played some WR last year but from what I remember he didn't fair so well when he had to play QB the first couple weeks when Schaub was out hurt. This is going to be an interesting year for both levels of football and I can't wait to hear about the Skins' mini camp this weekend.
