Has the team mailed it in? (If so, why?)
I'm looking back over the last two weeks. Both against Pittsburgh and Carolina it looked like most of the roster mailed it in. Obviously, it's not true of everyone. RG3 and Morris always give it everything they have, and guys like Morgan, T Williams and Lunch Pail Logan also work hard every game. Tana worked hard to prove he's still the best WR on the roster, but now that we're in the toilet I don't expect peak performance from him. Defensively, I think London, Bowen, and Doughty all work hard every game.
So yeah, I think the rest of the starters and regular rotation guys have mailed it in for the season, at least to the extent it matters i.e. there's a guy or two who doesn't matter, like Niles Paul. Two very different games in a row we saw it, and today was at home in a true must win situation. And then Mike says the rest of the season is really about evaluating talent, which isn't going to rally the troops IMHO So why have the 2012 Redskins basically mailed it in as of week 9? Can't say I believe I know, want to hear from everybody... And one more thing, this isn't meant to be a discussion about talent, though I realize if this thread goes on more than a couple pages talent will be discussed. Just that I'm asking a different question first: where's the effort, discipline, focus etc etc?

You think every starter you didn't mention has mailed it in?

Re: Has the team mailed it in? (If so, why?)
The team has mailed it in because their coach, mike shanahan has. They're just following his example. I didn't like the hire when it happened because shanahan was mediocre in Denver and I was tired of mediocrity. The fact is, the redskins are worse under shanahan then they've been in the Snyder era. Ginny and Snyder did a better job running this team than Allen and shanahan. And im by no means saying I want things to go back to the way they were. I'm just observing that, as bad as things were then, they're worse now. You can talk about "culture" all you want, and be right, but the results are damning. Shanahan has done nothing to earn a fourth season as head coach. He may be a master strategist, but he's a horrible in game head coach. Clock management is deplorable. He has to go. Bring in gruden.

On balance, yes. No extremes here. I'm not saying total lack of effort all game long. You know what I mean anyway, you're a smart dude.

I'm not sure, lets see after the bye against PHI and DAL. Today It did kinda look like a team and staff that had that defeat look and feel.

What are you talking about? Shanahan openly admitted defeat for the 2012 season in the post game presser.

Big hair is right. these past three year been the worst skins years imo maybe not as bad at spurriers but shanny is not the guy. We need a coach to motivate us and can use aFA as his tool more than just the draft

We had Jim Zorn for that.

Re: Has the team mailed it in? (If so, why?)
I saw the entire offensive line get pushed around today. I saw Polumbus, Montgomery, Williams, and Lichtensteiger play pathetically. The Carolina defensive front just manhandled our o-line. It was sickening to watch. As a result, Griffin III got hit too much and sacked too much. Just terrible.

Nobody has mailed it in. Except for a few players this team just doesnt have enough talent to compete especially with all the injuries.

Re: Has the team mailed it in? (If so, why?)
There are always ebbs and flows to a season, and ups and downs. The team has played very hard all year, has played with pride and intensity. Until last week, every loss was close; and last week's loss to Pittsburgh was just a loss to a superior team. I think falling out of contention and realizing that they weren't that good a team carried over to yesterday's game. I wouldn't go so far as to say that the team has mailed it in for the entire season, but it looked like they definitely mailed it in yesterday. Let's see how they bounce back.

I disagree with you then. You really think Chris Chester, Will Montgomery, Ryan Kerrigan, Lorenzo Alexander (just to name a few) have mailed it in?

Re: Has the team mailed it in? (If so, why?)
I don't believe that the Skins mailed it in versus the Panthers. They just got beat.
But now, after Mike Shanahan (of all people) waved the white flag after the Carolina game, some players probably will follow his negative example and quit. Shanahan will probably try to explain away his post game comments in his news conference today but the deed is done and he will no longer be viewed as a strong leader by either the players or the fans. I assume that Dan Snyder now knows what he needs to do. That is, fire Mike Shanahan. Frankly, I think he should do it now. If I owned the Redskins, the last thing I would want would be a head coach who quit on me. I sure as hell would not want to see his face in the hallway at Redskins Park and be reminded on a daily basis that I'm paying a quitter to lead my team. You lost me, Mike. Please leave now.
