Thoughts on the NFL
Post your thoughts or musings on the NFL, the Redskins, or football in general. Hopefully, this will give us something to discuss during this slow offseason. If this thread is too similar to the "It Remains to be Seen" thread, please delete it, mods. I'm not expecting anybody to answer all of these; just some things to think about.
1. Cincinnati and Houston will play for the AFC championship. 2. The Redskins will finish the regular season at 11-5. 3. Will people ever become so obsessed with safety in football that it will eventually be outlawed or look nothing like the current product? 4. D.J. Hayden will perform the best of all the rookies and will easily make the Pro Bowl. 5. What are the chances that in 10 years the Redskins will have a different name? 6. If you could choose one offensive player, one defensive player, and one special team player to build a long-term team around, who would they be? 7. Which player in the NFL will suffer a career-ending injury this season? 8. I don't think the 49ers are the real deal. I think their success will be over in a year or two. 9. Did any of you play college football? Are any of you closely related to an NFL player? 10. If you could change one thing in the NFL, what would it be? |

Re: Thoughts on the NFL
**The Redskins/NFC East have played or beaten the eventual super bowl champion for the past 7 straight years ('12 Ravens, '11 Giants, '10 Packers, '09 Saints, '08 Steelers, '07 Giants, '06 Colts). The NFC East plays Denver, and Green Bay. The Redskins also play San Francisco and Atlanta. So if history should repeat itself, expect either Denver, Green Bay, San Fran or Atlanta to be Super Bowl champions. Or us, of course. (Considering that only 13 teams get to play the eventual super bowl champion every year and there are 32 teams in the league, thats 40.63% of the league, which is kind of a lot, but still interesting that this has been going on for 7 straight years.)
** Expect the Chiefs to be very good this year. This squad faced some major injuries last year and had Matt Cassel as their QB. A smart and more accurate Alex Smith will help this team, add in the fact that their number 1 pick is going to start at RT while Branden Albert holds down the LT position. Plus he has Jamal Charles to run the ball, Dwayne Bowe to catch it, McCluster to run the pistol/wildcat with it. And Moekai and Fasno to catch it. This team looks like they can be the '11 Houston Texans. They already had 5 pro bowlers on their roster. ** Expect the Bears to be the 2nd of maybe even the 1st best team in the NFC North. Jay Cutler never had time to throw. They went out and got Jermon Bushrod as their starting LT, moved Webb to RT, drafted Kyle Long at Guard and signed Matt Slauson as their other guard. This lineup buys Cutler at least another second to throw, which is huge. ** Expect Rambo to start for us and for Chris Horton--I mean Phillip Thomas to come on as the 3rd safety while Meriweather and Rambo hold down the SS and FS positions respectively. ** Also expect Jordan Reed to be our new great Offensive weapon. History has shown in the draft that if Mike Shanahan really likes you, he won't even talk to you come draft time. He did the same thing with Jay Cutler a few years ago. He did the same thing with Jordan Reed this year. ** Don't be surprised if Adam Carriker gets cut. He is taking a long while to get back from his torn quad. Reports have said that things are moving slowly. We owe him over a million for the season. ** Baring injuries, expect Denver and San Fran in the Super Bowl. Those teams were both so close to winning it all last year. Add in they both got More weapons to their already talented rosters. I'm going with Denver since they cut Dumervil, and it always seems that the team who gets rid of one of their best players gets counted out too soon and ends up being that team that goes even further.

Offensive player would definitely be RG3. Defensive player would probably be J.J. Watt. Special team player would be Blair Walsh or else a really good return man. |

Re: Thoughts on the NFL
I'm dead serious. But I'm talking about many years down the road.

Re: Thoughts on the NFL
SmootSmack, I don't really care, but this wasn't intended to be a "news and notes" thread; more of an "opinions" thread. So you didn't need to close the NFL Offseason News. But really it doesn't matter, and you're a mod, so I'm sure it's the right decision.

Re: Thoughts on the NFL
Well it was time to close that thread and start a new news and notes one. For now I just moved the discussion in here, but why don't you go ahead and start a new one.

Re: Thoughts on the NFL
I would not be surprised if the skins make it to the SB ( the key is barring injuries) they made the playoffs despite a ton of injuries which is why they lost. This year they will be much stronger, new and old weapons coming back and making debuts. The Colts will be better than last year also, NE and Denver will underperform, age is catching up to Brady and Manning. Miami, KC, Houston will be contenders.

I'm not a fan of Miami just yet, but I really do like Kansas city this year. I think they may win that division

Re: Thoughts on the NFL
1. Andrew Luck has a sophomore slump, but eventually establishes himself as the NFL's best pocket passer.
2. Jordan Reed will be kicked off the Redskins in 3 years because of attitude problems. 3. Will the Redskins beat the Super Bowl champions for the 4th straight year? |

I do have a question though, I know people were comparing Reed to AH back when that all went down but why do you believe he has attitude problems? I have not ever heard this as being a problem for him and when you think of how he made the transition from QB ( why he was recruited to FL ) to TE/HB/hybrid player with pretty good success. It would seem to me he is a hard worker who slipped due to his raw ability and the perceived ability of those players selected ahead of him in the draft.
