Predict Your 2013 Redskins Record (pre-training camp edition)
Since we are bringing back 21 of 22 starters, and the main rookie/FA challengers are clear, I think that everyone ought to have a pretty good feeling for what their expectations for the regular season are. I would even say that to me it seems obvious that Griffin will be a go by game 1, but definitely no later than our bye week which is when the schedule really starts to grind.
Last season we went 5-1 against the division, and I expect we won't do worse than 4-2 this year. It's also the first time we play a first place schedule, which basically means we get the Falcons not the Bucs, and the Seahawks not the Cardinals. We played and lost to both the Falcons and Seahawks last year, so it's not an insignificant switch. But I think we win both those games with a healthy Griffin(oh how key that sentence is this year). Several magazines have us placing fourth which is absolutely incomprehensible to me. Basically for the purposes of the poll I put our floor at 8-8, if any one sees us worse than that, as Ricky Ricardo used to say, You've got some 'splaining to do. I do think we could top out around 13-3, but being a Skins fan and not wanting to sound to homeresque, I'll say 11-5, 2 being division losses, 2 being teams we would be expected to beat but somehow beat ourselves, and 1 where the team just outplayed us from the start, no division team will outplay us from the start, and we will sweep the Giants this year. Let's hear your thoughts, and any specific wins/losses you are willing to predict now. This poll is public. |

11-5 is how I see it to. I think our offense will give the league something else to figure out & our defense will step up a lot of guys in contract years.

9-7, NFC East Champs.
I don't think we'll do a ton of winning outside of the division, but a 4-2 in house effort should get the job done.

10-6 and barely beat out dallas for the division crown. I do see us in the NFC Title game

12-4 means RG3 doesnt miss anytime and our Defense takes the jump from middle of the pack to top 5 or just outside of top 5...I would love to see it, but...

Re: Predict Your 2013 Redskins Record (pre-training camp edition)
Still going 9-7, but I save the right to revise that once I see our secondary a little bit more in training camp. We have some very difficult games @ GB, @ ATL, @ Denver which I have "budgeted" for losses. By rule, I always just have us splitting the NFC East, so there is 6 right there.
However, if I see the improvement on our defense stay consistent with the young additions/returns of Merriweather and hopefully Jackson, then my thoughts change pretty quickly into 11-5. (I'm also always very pessimistic, but Rg3 is starting to change that)

Re: Predict Your 2013 Redskins Record (pre-training camp edition)
It's not that we're not talented enough to win 12 games. We are. But I think a lot of people are expecting the seven game winning streak to continue indefinitely which is leading to a lot of really high predictions for a team that didn't really improve (or have the means to improve) in the offseason.
I am predicting that the days of beginning every. single. year. 3-6 are now over. I think we're too good to slump like that right out of the gate. And the other thing we have going for us is after years and years of playing a gauntlet schedule, the NFC East is no longer that tough, meaning we draw our six most critical games against a below average slate of opponents. But the rules of the NFL suggest that 75% of the teams are going to trend towards 8-8 from whatever their previous record was. We were 10-7 last year, and it's hard to see us winning 10 of the first 16 again. Again, not impossible...and if you guaranteed me that RG3 starting every game this year, then I think 10 wins becomes likely. But we don't know what we're going to get out of him in year two and I can't base a prediction that a team will overachieve its talent based on just a second year player. Although in the case where Griffin is healthy for every game and starts tearing down franchise passing records...yeah, then we'll win 12+ games (and likely go 6-0 in the division).

11-5 +/-1, if rg3 gets hurt, it's all out the window though.

Re: Predict Your 2013 Redskins Record (pre-training camp edition)
The poll is also really skewed because there's such a high probability (40-45%) that the Redskins win 8 or fewer games that anyone who votes that way is going to look like they're picking the Redskins to go 1-15.
I mean, there's basically no chance at all that the Redskins go worse than 4-12. But 8-8? That's not the same thing.

Re: Predict Your 2013 Redskins Record (pre-training camp edition)
11-5. I look at our schedule and see Atlanta, San Fran, Denver, Green Bay as well as the rest of the NFC East and see 5 losses. But of course there is always a game or two we look at and say "Oh thats a win" which ends up being a loss and vice versa. I think we beat a couple of those tough teams I listed above, like San Fran and Green Bay, but lose to a team like Kansas City or San Diego or Chicago or even Philly.
