Redskins Looking at WR Roddy White?

I don't know if anyone else caught this, but Vinny was in Alabama March 17th scouting. There were several players working out on this Pro Day, but the main player there apparently was WR Roddy White. White (6-1 3/8, 204) ran his 40s in 4.47 and 4.45. He also ran the short shuttle in 4.01 seconds, the three-cone drill in 7.19 and the long shuttle in 11.56. He had a 41-inch vertical jump, a 10-foot-6 broad jump.

For comparison purposes, White's numbers were actually better than Michigan's All American Braylon Edwards'. Edwards (6-2 7/8, 210) ran his 40s in 4.48 and 4.50. He had a 37½-inch vertical jump, 10-foot-6 long jump, 4.38 short shuttle and 6.87 three-cone drill. It was described as a great workout, as Edwards didn't have one drop.

So, White is quicker, faster, and jumps higher than Edwards even though he's shorter!

White caught 71 passes for 1452 yards (20.5 avg) with 14 TDs in 12 games for Alabama Birmingham.

Mel Kiper ranks White as the 3rd best receiver, the 12th best NFL prospect, and ahead of Troy Williamson.

"A big play threat and a playmaker."

Future Skin???

Coupled with the news that Courtney Brown was offered a contract, I guess that may mean I don't get Erasmus James.

WE STILL NEED A CB!!!!! Rolle, Rodgers, or Pac Man should be the pick.

I really like this guy as well. I think that if we can trade down and get him or Williamson as well as picking up at least a low 2nd or high third, I will be very excited. Also if we rid ourselves of Gardner for a a low 2nd or high third, maybe package up some combination of the 2nd and 3rd round pick and come back into the first and get one of the top CB.

If anything, we need an effective passing rushing DE more than we need a CB (or WR). We're fine with Walt Harris, Ade Jimoh, Garnell Wilds and Rufus Brown teaming up with Shawn Springs, if we can get to the passer faster.

I am glad you have faith in that group of CB's because I don't. Harris is not what he used to be, Wilds has some upside but is not a starter yet, and Jimoh and Brown are nickles at best. We need a big time CB and Rolle, Jones, or Rodgers can be that type of corner.

Early on I wanted White in the second rd. along with William's or Edward's, but he's defiently moved himself into probably somewhere in the middle of the first rd, he will be a very good reciever for somebody.

You have hit something on the head here! There is talk out here if someone can give SF 49ers a package of picks they are willing to part with thier 2nd round pick! If they are others will be as well!

No we don't. We already have plenty CBs. We will NOT be taking a cb with the #9 overall pick. I can guarantee that.

Re: Redskins Looking at WR Roddy White?

from what i read, he also had a bunch of catchable balls clang off his hands. aaron brooks (saints qb) was the one throwing to him and he throws a tight spiral with good speed. probably comparable to the way ramsey throws the ball.
granted white was likely nervous but we have had players like that (gardner and russell) taken with high picks. give me a guy with glue onhis fingers. if you want to drop down into the second or third round, think thorp (fla st) who may not be quite as fast, but catches everything thrown at him.. JMHO

Re: Redskins Looking at WR Roddy White?

My take on this is that it is harder to defend a pass than to catch a pass. All of our projected receivers can catch the pass. I think that a solid CB is our best bet in the first round of the draft.

As the old saying goes. "You cannot defend the perfect pass." With that said, a CB is a better option.

As a final note, I am in no way trying to defend our receivers' abilites after the catch. With that said, remember that the sun even shines on a dog's ass every once in a while.

Let's just wait 'til tomorrow to hear Courtney Brown's decision. By the way, every team scouts more than one prospect. You'd be a fool not to.

By the way, Tahoe, I like how you referenced your facts. Keep up the good work.
