Re: Updated cap sheets now up (3/21)
man there are a lot of people with huge cap numbers next year. What I really dont get is why Patten is due almost five million next year and less that two all the other years. I would have thought tha tthey would make his number small next year becuase we are goign to be tight. Mabye they know somehthing we dont about what the cap will be.

Samuels has good numbers throughout really. He could actually be a "Skin for Life". Probably a tiny restructure here or there but nothing major. Good job on that one.

Re: Updated cap sheets now up (3/21)
Probably of no interest to anyone except the tortured souls who pay close attention to the cap but CC did you remember that the rule of 51 is only those salaries in the top 51 plus signing bonus proration for those not in the top 51 count at this time so the proration for Molinaro and Wilson should be counted against the cap.
Also thanks to this from the CBA at the NFLPA site... (b) No NFL Player Contract entered into in a Capped Year and extending into the Final League Year or beyond may provide for an annual increase in Salary, excluding any amount attributable to a signing bonus as defined in Section 7(b)(iv) above, of more than 30% of the Salary provided for in the Final Capped Year, per year, either in the Final League Year or in any subsequent League Year covered by the Player Contract. For example, without limitation on any other applicable example, a four-year Player Contract signed in the 2006 League Year may not provide for an annual increase of more than 30% of the 2006 League Year Salary, excluding amounts treated as a signing bonus, in each of the three additional League Years covered by the Contract. * Extension Agreement 1/8/02 I think both the totals for Arrington and Samuels are quite a bit light for 06. I think Arrington's roster bonus is 6.5M in 06 in order to justify a 2M increase in salary later in the contract. Also I believe I remember reading that it was thought odd he thought there were two roster bonuses of 6.5M in 06 which led to his grievance against the Skins. With Samuels I believe guaranteed money in the contract for years after 06 will indeed count in 06 in accordance with the CBA paragraph concerning treatment of guaranteed money after the final capped year. I think guaranteeing the money for Samuels in years after 06 and having it count in 06 was the Skin's attempt to comply with the above 30% rule with the added advantage that should there be a CBA extension the entire amount of the money will count in the future years and not leave a portion of it in 06 as happens with the above 20M of roster bonuses due in 06 that will be guaranteed and prorated should the CBA be extended. These are cpmplicated issues and not meant in any way to diminish the great job CC does of keeping track of the Skin's cap for this site. |

Thanks all.
As you know I never claim that the sheets are 100% accurate. The salaries and signing bonuses are easy to verify, but the other detailed information is tough to find. |

The bottom line is when it comes to roster bonuses, incentives, escaltors, etc., an educated guess is often the best we can do. It's great that more guys on the Warpath are into the cap stuff and would even notice something like Patten's RB. Pocono, FRPLG, Schneed, and all keep the posts coming! PS - Anyone know a janitor at Redskins Park? I gotta get the keys to Eric Shaffer's office. |

Thanks Pocono - good info.
While my sheets will probably never be 100% accurate it's good to know they are close. |

Re: Updated cap sheets now up (3/21)
good work as always CrazyCanuck.
Can you have a sheet that has the figures from last year, and any other years that you have already done. i am curious sometimes about whta people made in the past. Specifically, right now I am curious what Sean Taylor counted against the cap last year to gauge how much money we will need for the 9th pick in the draft.
