Re: Redskins free agent signings thread part II

I gave a B, only because I'm still worried about the secondary. We made the right decision on passing on the very high priced safeties, leaving us with Clark and Meriweather. But we are still thin at safety.

That said, I'm acknowledging that's a bit of a nitpick. We made many moves to get deeper in the trenches, and probably more importantly we got much better on special teams.

The Jason Hatcher and DeSean Jackson signings were done at reasonable prices, so we haven't sacrificed long-term financial flexibility. Overall, this seemed to be an offseason where we looked at free agency as a way to supplement a roster, not build one. Now we look to the draft where the team can earn their way to an A offseason with a smart draft.

I will go with an A for FA. I like what we did and the prudence in our moves. Solid FA signings. We didn't break the bank, and improved on offense and defense.

I gave a B, thought they made alot of solid moves. Hopeful on the DJax signing.
My concern is still the Oline.......

Re: Redskins free agent signings thread part II

I would choose B- or C+ in the poll if I could. The most positive part is that we mostly have tried to build the roster from the bottom up, which should result in an NFL necessity: quality depth. Three cheers for the FO for this.

The Hatcher signing was mostly good, but IMO we would have gotten more long-term bang for our buck by nabbing Linval Joseph instead of the 32-year-old Hatcher.

I won't repeat my views regarding DJax. The bright side is that he should put up huge numbers and allow Garcon and Roberts to thrive, too.

I gave an A, because you can't address every single need in free agency nor should you. The 'skins addressed enough to open the draft wide open to address other needs.

Re: Redskins free agent signings thread part II

I probably would have given a B+ if that was an option. We had a very 'anti-Redskins' free agent period. Started out slowly, under the radar. Roberts, Lavaou on the first day and even Porter later in the week were pretty consistent with what we've done post Vinny. Younger players with some pedigree but upside. Hatcher was a good fit for the defense and should make an impact. Jackson is obviously the home run and it was possible because of our prudence early on.

As for our own FA, we brought back pretty much who I wanted and thought we would, with the exception of Moss. Bringing Clark back is a nice locker room piece but I hope Thomas is starting over him by midseason.

Hoping we address S, RT, ILB in the draft. I'm not as worried about the OL as some people, it's been adequately addressed IMO.

I gave them a B. I'd say its more like a B+ most of the strength coming from the DJax signing and the focus on LBs. Had they gotten the deal done with La Puente, probably would've kicked that up to an A.

I'm the lone "C" in there, but it's mostly because I have concerns about both the secondary and the O Line. Those can certainly be addressed through the draft, but we're not there and the questions asks about free agency.

A, we got a difference maker, and we addressed all our needs outside RT, though obviously ryan clark isn't the kind of safety (old) that we wanted.

if we draft a RT or S at 34 i'd be pretty happy, or OG/DL would be fine. no team in the league is perfect, so you just need to do what you can to improve and hope that your strengths prove to overcome your weaknesses.

we still need to see how it works out with the new pieces though. that's always the fine print.

I gave them a B. Cant address everything in FA, but they did enough to warrant a good grade. Probably should give them an A for not overspending like we have seen from this team in the past. I liked the approach of depth and a couple of starters over just 2 or 3 starters and nothing else since no cap space or doing a ton of restructures and putting us back in cap purgatory.

I'm going with an A also. I love the Clark signing and pulling of DJAX was damn impressive. We haven't went crazy w money either so I'M happy with the OS so far.

ILB is very important as well.

Re: Redskins free agent signings thread part II

I gave the team an A for the Free agency, they filled the depth needed in key areas, while weakening other teams in the division. We now have a somewhat clear direction heading into free agency.
Having that speed element in Jackson will greatly help the rest of the receivers. Jason Hatcher will enhance the rush ability from the D-Line.

Meriwether and Clark may not be ideal but I think it will work for what the're asked to do.

Solid B.

Jackson brings the grade way up, prior to that it feels like we just filled out some depth more than anything. Nothing wrong with that of course, we need it.
