Drafting Hurricanes makes your team better

The four most recent mock drafts ive read all have the Redskins drafting a DT or DE which would be a huge mistake for the Redskins. We need to draft Taylor or Winslow because players from Miami have a proven track record of making a team better.

Year after year former Canes players have battled for rookie of the year, and player of the year honors. I promise this is no coincidence.

Im new to The Warpath but I wanted to start this thread for people to post questions about Tayor and Winslow. I saw them play in everygame last year and will hopefully be able to supply some new insight into them. I was anwsering some questions about them in random threads so I thought id start one to make it easier.

As a PSU fan it kind of hurts to admit that we need to take a Miami player with our pick. I agree with taking Taylor, he is going to be insane, but I would say take another 'cane by the name of Vince Wilfork would be a better choice for us than Winslow. I just have a feeling he could be the next Warren Sapp maybe even better.

I grew up with Zach Mills, PSU's QB, and Joe Paterno seemingly was at my HS everymonth so ive always been a Penn State fan. Wilfork will probably be a good player but he had a lot of help at UM. The canes had so much depth at D-line that we had shifts of linemen that rotated in so everyone was fresh. He has lost some weight and might be a good player in the future but wont have any where near the impact that Taylor or Winslow will have. I hate to say it but im hesitate about UM linemen becuase we have had so much talent the rotations are what make them look better, sinec they are fresh. Our entire line was drafted last year, three by the eagles and Giants and none of them did much last year yet all were studs in college.

Have the Redskins ever drafted a player out of Miami?

They've had some Canes but always made the mistake of not drafting them. A lot of people thought they should have drafted Sapp. Everynow and again they will pick up a Cane (Armstead and Portis)

SkinsnCanes, I've got a few questions

1. How good a blocker is Winslow?

2. How good a tackler is Taylor? I don't mean hard hits, I mean actually wrap your arms around the guy tackling

3. If we draft Winslow he doesn't really expect to get #81 does he?

4. Ditto Sean Taylor with #26

5. Who would you pick?

Winslow is a complete player, he'll pancake a linebacker. He went a few games where he had minimal if any stats, but made a big impact drawing people to him and downfield blocking. And since Brock Berlin is a bum ive seen Winslow make a bunch of tackles after a pick. Yes you asked about Taylors tackling but unfortunately ive seen Winslow make a bunch of tackles. As far as Taylor, draft him, draft him draft him. Winslow would make our offense unstopable with all our other weopons, but Taylor alone changes a teams offensive strategy. VT threw less that five passes against Miami because of him. I wouldnt doubt if Taylor put up as many points as our offensive did last year. He has a natural instict for the ball, hes in on everyplay. Everyone sees Lavar running down the ball on everyplay, it would be two of them if we get Taylor, the defense would instincting become a force.

As far as the numbers, Winslow would probably take 81. Hed ask but probably doesnt care who had it before him he wants to make his own legacy. Theres no way Taylor will get 26 though.

I have felt all along that taylor is the best player in this draft, with that said winslow didn't impress me in miami's bowl game this year, was it an inability of the offense to get him the ball? Or is he containable? IF the answer is the latter then I think each should be able to impact thier side of the ball fairley equally which is really saying a lot, IMO 2 players on the same team who played together for 3 year's who could possibly when thier carreer's are over be considered all time great's, I love taylor in fact I believe I was the first one here to really start lobbying hard for him { not that skin's management is listening to me ] but if winslow is unstoppable it would make you think twice as to who would be more valuable in the long haul? a TE who can move the chain's at will or a saftey who is everywhere? tough decision, what do think about that SC?

I want them both =(

Isn't that game where VT threw only 5 passes also where VT and Kevin Jones ran all over you?

If we draft winslow and he wants #81... cut him, haha. Seriously though, theres NO WAY we should give him #81, unless Art Monk himself presented him the number.

SkinsnCanes thanks for offering up your Hurricanes insight!

I can't argue with the fact that Miami players are usually impact type players. Looks like the Skins are in line for one of them, I'm leaning more towards Taylor at this point but after reading Joe's minicamp reports it's becoming obvious that Winslow might be just what Gibbs needs at the H-back. Either way I think we're in a win-win situation.

Taylor could be the next Ronnie Lott, and Winslow could complete what would appear to be on paper, the most dynamic offense Gibbs has ever coached.

As far as Winslow wanting #81, that's not gonna happen.

I knew there was a reason I liked your initial post on this thread and read the rest of them. We both agree Sean Taylor is a diffrence maker. I would be happy if we drafted Winslow, but I think that would be a luxory pick (just like T. Jacobs was last year) given our needs on defense. Other teams will lick their chops if we line up Iffy and Bowens at safety, our current saftey's are not good. Free Safety is a thinking man's positon. Iffy and Bowen don't fill that requirement.
I am not sure there is another defensive player in this draft that can have as much of an impact to our defense (and team) as Taylor. I say this because of our extreme need at this position and his obvious talent.
