Darrell Russell to the Bucs?

The Post says that the Bucs are "applying the finishing touches" to a deal that will bring Darrell Russell to Tampa next year on a one-year contract. The terms are reported to be a $25K signing bonus and a $660K salary for the year - and that is the league minimum for someone with Russell's tenure in the league.

Why is that interesting?

Here is a guy who is willing to work for the league minimum and to take a signing bonus that is a drop in the bucket. Yet, the Redskins decided to let him go without even talking to him about returning for next year. So ask yourself this: How big a pain in the butt must Russell have been in his 8 weeks here to be shown the door when he could have been had for minimum salary?

I was wondering the same thing when I saw how little he signed for. Unbelievable for a guy with all that talent. Good Riddance.

Tampa loses one pain in the ass in Sapp and gets another with Russell....

D Russ is a bum. He gets a second chance with the Skins and he just blows it off, he's lucky to have yet another shot. But of course with guys like him it's always the same story. If you are a talented but troubled player you'll get the second and third and even fourth chances that other lesser talented guys won't get. Each team hopes and prays they can "turn around" the troubled player, but how many times does it actually happen?

Cris Carter is the only good example I can think of off hand that was able to turn his career around. Other than that you have a bunch of guys like Jeff George, Daryl Gardener and now Darrell Russell.

Maybe being reunited with his old coach Gruden will help him, maybe Gruden knows how to get inside his head? I doubt it but who knows.

Never underestimate the charactor of a man, and what it can do to a team positivly, or negatively, Gibb's know's who and how to win, he's smart enough to stay away from russell, who just doesn't have issuies, I believe he has no charactor what so ever. russell is a very dark cloud, and we are advancing into the sunshine of victory!
