Training Camp 2017

Going, haven't decided when...kinda depends on work.

Here is a nice little blurb about our new Safety from Keim:

"Safety D.J. Swearinger is very communicative in the secondary. He is decisive on his calls, too. He made one today at the last second to alert safety Su'a Cravens to drop while Swearinger ran up to cover a tight end with in the flat. It worked: the play was covered."

Ziggy Hood started at left end and Terrell McClain at right end. This is a change. Though Hood got first-team work during the spring, McClain (signed as a free agent) did not. Later, A.J. Francis replaced Mbu at the nose, and Matt Ioannidis and Stacy McGee played end. For nickel packages, Anthony Lanier and Jonathan Allen took some snaps."

IIRC Cooley wasn't ecstatic about Allen in his post-draft film breakdown, he said high potential but wasn't quite as high on him as everybody else.

I really think we need him to be a true playmaker for this DL group to really improve, if he's not, who's going to ?

Allen will earn his snaps, as well he should. Shouldn't be long until he moves up the depth chart.

Did they have pads on when those D line lineups were on the field? Because if not I don't care what was happening.

For trench play, nothing matters until you see the pads come on.

Its just too early and working thru various combinations seems like the right thing to do for a rebuild. Want to see Allen earn it. Im really liking the depth for the DL rotation....

Looking to see who stands out on the Dline as camp goes on.

Me too, let's just hope he does, just feel like the sooner the better!

Re: Training Camp 2017

I just can't get too exited about anything I hear out of camp. Glad football is here but wake me up in Sept.

I remember last year Breeland had about the best pre season out of anyone. Then he came out and stunk the majority of the year.

Glad to see we have some depth at OLB. And looking for some of the guys from last years draft class to have good camps... Cravens, Doc and Fuller.

Potentially, I feel like this could be the best offense we've put on the field since the 91 team. If Doc and Pryor can play up to their ability, then you have Reed and Crowder. How do you stop these guys? We have size, speed and run after the catch.

Running game is still a big question mark though. Best offense in the last 20 years goes to the 1999 team. Solid all around. If our Sooner stud pans out, it will be lights out !!!!

To me, the best case scenario is if we break camp and preseason and the most impressive player coming out is Perine. That would really get me going.

Like hearing Swearinger as most impressive from Gruden so far. Also looks like JG is progressing well...ballin against Trent.

Re: Training Camp 2017

Looks like my preseason training camp hero pick is off to a fast start per Keim:

Rookie report: Seventh-round corner Josh Holsey intercepted two passes during full-team drills. Holsey has worked mostly in the slot and has proven to be a quick learner. In one-on-one drills, Holsey has done a nice job turning and running with receivers. His ability to play the slot gives him a shot to make the roster.
