Garoppolo to the 49ers
Looks like Kyle will give Jimmy Garoppolo a test-drive as 49ers QB of the future:
New England Patriots trade Jimmy Garoppolo to San Francisco 49ers for draft pick If he performs well, I cannot see John Lynch breaking the bank to sign Kirk in the offseason. |

Re: Garoppolo to the 49ers
This isn’t a tryout, Grap is the 49ers qb for awhile.

Re: Garoppolo to the 49ers
That would be great for the Skins, as SF gave Kirk his greatest leverage. LA Rams are no longer an option either, with Goff playing well this season. I still see the Jets and the Jags as two significant competitors for Kirk's services.

Re: Garoppolo to the 49ers
Cardinals, Vikings, Jacksonville would be my front runners for Cousins.

Re: Garoppolo to the 49ers
Dumb trade by 49ers. Why not ride the season out and draft a QB at the top of the draft
This. Expect a contract extension soon.

Re: Garoppolo to the 49ers
"Garoppolo, who will turn 26 on Thursday, was a second-round pick in 2014 whom 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan reportedly graded highly when he was the Browns offensive coordinator at the time."
Report: 49ers deal for Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo - SFGate

Re: Garoppolo to the 49ers
What if this means the Patriots want Cousins to be Brady's replacement?

Re: Garoppolo to the 49ers
Patriots typically do not spend a lot of money in free agency. As someone mentioned, Cousins will likely end up with Jets, Jags, or Browns if he hits free agency.

Re: Garoppolo to the 49ers
This will take an attractive suitor off the table for Cousins, but the reality of the NFL is that there will always be plenty of suitors for a decent qb that doesn't have to be bought with draft picks.

Re: Garoppolo to the 49ers
Imgaine this scenario: Eli Manning retires at the end of the season and the Giants manage to sign Cousins. Then we get torched by Wentz, Prescott and Cousins for the foreseeable future.

Jimmy has a chance to be good and he should easily be better than what they have at the QB position now. I think the timing of this move is excellent. By bringing in Jimmy G. now the team should be energized and Jimmy will have an opportunity to settle in so he'll be ready to go next season.

Re: Garoppolo to the 49ers
I'm sort of not happy about the Jimmy G. deal because I'm a cousins Fan and was hoping that if he walks from here after this season (very likely), that he lands in San Fran. Now it kind of looks like if he doesn't get signed here, he will have his suitors but they are all shit teams. My buddy at work who is a skins fan thinks that Cousins could get signed by the Browns....that sure sucks to imagine Cousins being part of that shit show. I just don't see Kirk being a guy who is content to win 1 or 2 games a season...
