RIP Redskins HOFer Bobby Mitchell
https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/...dskins-dies-84
Crazy that he was putting up numbers in the 60's that would still be studly today. 14k career all-purpose yards in 11 seasons. And thanks for him willing to be the first to come to DC, that had to be a tough barrier to break. Condolences to his family and friends.

RIP he was a great player. Not sure why but you never hear about the other two AA that joined the Redskins that same year.

Re: RIP Redskins HOFer Bobby Mitchell
RIP, glad to see he had a long productive life after his playing days were over. Condolences to his family and friends. Over 2800 receiving yards in 1962-63 is freaking crazy. They only played 14 games a year back then and as long as a DB didn't tackle a receiver as the ball was arriving there were no flags. That and lineman could not hold or grab so a clean pocket for a QB didn't last long. Mitchell definitely was one of the great all time Redskins.

Re: RIP Redskins HOFer Bobby Mitchell
Very sad, a lot of these old great Redskins are really getting up there in age. I always loved Bobby Mitchell, one of my favorite Redskins. I read a book about George Preston Marshall a while ago and some of the things this man had to go through was astonishing.
But I remember when he went on the radio and called out Joe Gibbs and said he was going to lose the team. It was over Williams/Schroeder back in 87. I believe Gibbs went back to JS after Williams had gotten injured. What a year that was. I don't know why he was never named GM as he certainly had paid his dues. Sadly he was passed over twice be Jack Kent Cooke. I think he left the team on bad terms when his number was given out to some scub TE. It was total disrespect to someone that had given so much to this organization. |
