Bernie Sanders Hates Child Cancer Research
Of course no one has mentioned this here because if it's not crying about Trump it doesn't matter. Even the "conservatives" here. Pathetic.

trump and Robert F. Kennedy Jr., as the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS), has directed major cuts in federal funding for mRNA vaccine development and autism research related to environmental chemical exposure. mRNA Vaccine Research In August 2025, Kennedy announced the termination of 22 federal grants and contracts worth nearly $500 million, which were managed by the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) and dedicated to developing mRNA vaccines for infectious diseases like COVID-19, influenza, and H5N1 bird flu. Rationale for Cuts: Kennedy stated that data showed mRNA vaccines "fail to protect effectively against upper respiratory infections" and announced a shift in focus toward "safer, broader vaccine platforms" such as whole-virus vaccines. Impacted Projects: The decision affected contracts with various entities, including Pfizer, Moderna, Sanofi Pasteur, and Emory University. Criticism: Public health experts and scientists widely criticized the move, arguing that it is based on discredited claims about mRNA vaccine safety and efficacy. They contend that the cuts create a national security vulnerability by hobbling the nation's ability to rapidly respond to future pandemics and could also indirectly harm the development of promising mRNA-based cancer therapies that use shared infrastructure. Autism and Environmental Health Research Kennedy has also eliminated more than 50 federally funded autism research projects that were investigating potential links between chemical exposures and autism. Focus Shift: This funding was redirected to a new initiative, the Autism Data Science Initiative, under Kennedy's control. Concerns: Researchers expressed fears that this change would sideline the study of environmental factors that have been linked to neurodevelopmental disorders and instead manipulate findings to support Kennedy's long-held, but scientifically unsupported, belief linking vaccines to autism. The decision coincides with the Trump administration's broader rollbacks of pollution regulations and dismantling of federal research infrastructure. Additionally, reports indicated that the Trump administration has effectively cut approximately $2.7 billion in National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding across various diseases in the first few months of 2025, including a significant reduction in cancer research. None of this includes the funding in research trump has cut from major Colleges and Universities.

Re: Bernie Sanders Hates Child Cancer Research
There was absolutely no reason for Bernie to block this bill. It's very unfortunate that civilians are paying the price dearly for the politicians' revenges for each other.
Bernie said that he blocked this bill because he wants to add an amendment to get more funds for community health centers. He went even further by pointing to Republicans dropping their support for the bipartisan year-end funding bill in 2024 consisting multiple health care-related policies that includes the support for the child cancer research right after Elon Musk encouraged Republicans to withdraw their support. But then, we also have to look at a bigger picture. It is well known for centuries that leaders are fundamentally responsible for setting examples as they directly influence team behavior, culture and performance. Unfortunately, the person in the leadership position is well known for tit for tat approach (the most recent incident is Trump vetoing Colorado water project and Florida tribal measure for revenge purpose), even has a long history for creating conditional agreement by tying something irrelevant to the subject discussed (i.e., tying SNAP benefits to the government shutdown). Just like we have experienced first hand with Snyder and Commanders, whenever we want to change the culture, it starts with people in the top. |

As for the Elon Musk part, like I explained in my first post, I do not agree with the tit for tat approach, especially when it holds people hostage. |

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/san...grinch-selfish The Vermont independent explained that he had no problem with the legislation, which would have incentivized the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and drug companies to encourage more relevant pediatric studies and invest in rare pediatric disease treatments, but he wanted to tack on an amendment to fund community health centers throughout the country. "This is not a radical amendment," Sanders said. "I'm not coming here saying, ‘Let's do something we've not talked about.’ I'm not talking about passing Medicare for all here. I am talking about doing what the Republicans and Democrats agreed to a year ago but was torpedoed by some tweets from Elon Musk." Lawmakers already had a version of the bill teed up for passage last year, attached to the colossal, year-end temporary funding extension produced by the House. But that package was ultimately blown apart by tech billionaire Elon Musk, who at the time was coming to Washington, D.C., to serve as President Donald Trump’s government waste attack dog at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). What eventually passed in late 2024 was a slimmed-down, three-month extension to government funding without the pediatric cancer research bill, and several other policy and funding riders eyed by both sides of the aisle.
