Ingredients for a Championship
The way I see it, we have what it takes right now to make a serious run this season at the playoffs, and even a bowl if we stay healthy. I really like this team... Take a look with me at the ingredients for a possible championship in 05-06.
QB: Ramsey is GOOD. yes thats right he is good. He lacks confidence because of the constant tourmoil he has went through since his drafting, but he still has a hell of a arm, smart, and has the heart of a champion. Unlike brunnell he's not scared to take a hit. solid backups if brunnel gets his head out of his ass RB: We have a workhorse in portis, with a solid backup in Betts, plus power in the draft picks for goal line situations.. A Sleeper who may make an impact is Rock Cartright- a good goal line option who wasn't utilized in 04 WR: They are smaller, faster, and smarter, if it worked for the patriots, why not? TE: Cooley is an unknown beast, he'll be even better next year and has the heart of the champion. solid backup at both h-back and tightend. Royal has goten better every year, may blossom this season into a serious threat. Solid Line: if this group can work cohesively and stay healthy they are a force to be wreckoned with Dline: Solid group, with the heart of champions who played with a chip on their shoulder last season. Solid Secondary: Even with the loss of smoot we have a top tep pick waiting in the wings to replace him. If this kid has half the heart of old Smooty we are in great shape. he is more physically gifted than smoot Championship caliber Safety: thug or not Taylor can play... Like Rodney harrison, Ronnie Lott, Roy Williams, or Ed Reed. He is an upperescelon player who puts fear in the hearts of opposing wideouts. Lets us never forget the philly lost in lights incident, or the knock a wide open player out of the endzone. stuff like that sends a statement across the league very strong line backing core: Pierce gone... so what we gained holdman and possibly lavar, Barrow, and a potential star in McCume. This group will shine under willams All star coaching staff enough said... simply the best if we can stay relatively healthy we have an excellent team What u guys think? am I right or wrong? what do you think we will do this year?

Very optimistic. Definitely a best case-scenario, but who knows. It might happen.

I still think we have a ways to go before we are nose to nose with the Eagles. But stranger things have happened. I do see a winning season this year, I don't know about Super Bowl, but I see some degree of success.

I think depth is more important then staying heathly. injuries are going to happen to every team but teams like the eagles and new england have good depth so they can adapt to injuries. new england lost their starting corners and still had a great secondary.

Re: Ingredients for a Championship
Nope, not me. They are NOT going to do this to me this year, not gonna let it happen. Every single year the Skins get my hopes up on the offseason, only to let me down miseralbly during the season. First it was Norv Turner, our defense was horrible. Then they brought in Schotty, suddenly we couldn't score a freakin touchdown and we had the god awful Tony Banks as our qb. Then Spurrier comes in and everyone, press included, everyone gets my hopes up that in a year or 2 he'll have this hole NFL thing figured out with our boys pitchin and catchin all over the field. God help us, and Patrick Ramsey. The Great One then returns and seems, well, confused. So nope, for the past 12 years they have done this to me, and Im NOT going to fall for this again and be crushed. This year Im a pessimist. I predict 8-8.

Hey paulskinsfan, no one said you had to pick them to win the Super Bowl. But if you want to be such a pessimist, you might feel better rooting for another team. I personally think we'll be either 10-6 or 9-7, barely missing the playoffs or else making it with a wildcard slot.

Re: Ingredients for a Championship
It might sound crazy, but I look back at last year, and it tells me more about our chances for success then looking at this year ... or present.
We could have easily, and by easy, these games were ABSOULUTE TOSS UPS!! Cincy, Giants, and the Dallas losses. We win those and we are 9-7 and in the playoffs. Simple. I think we were so damn close to having a decent season. When ever you got 1/2 of your team dominating like the D did, you got to be better t han 6-10. Our record last year was deceiving. We were disgusting on offense, no doubt, but we could have won more games, and I think St. Joe and the crew will make the adjusments to get us to at least 9-7 this year. I personally, would be SHOCKED if we did better than that. |

We did put away an offense better than the eagles when we played the Vikings, and at the beginning of that game, the Vikes thought they were playing for the playoffs. The Eagles defense is extremely overrated, and I think we'll be able to run all overthem if we can bounce portis to the outside without having him wait for pulling linemen to block for him. I understand about getting disappointed every year after a big build-up of excitement every single offseason. We've all felt it, but for me, I love this team like I love my kid. No matter what they throw at me, I can't bring myself to expect anything less than greatness. |

Re: Ingredients for a Championship
How can anyone look at last year and honestly think we won't be better this year? Our offense stunk for the first 8 games. Then Ramsey comes in and starts with the Eagles and Steelers. We were making progress on offense and dominating on defense.
Gibbs tweeked the offense towards the end of the season. The last 5 games the skins averaged 20.4 points per game. If Gibbs can add a field goal a game to the average thats about 24 points per game. If we can average that, we will be in the playoffs. I have said it over and over. This is classic Gibbs. Don't make drastic changes. Methodically make things a little better. Guys, don't be surprised to see the Skins put up 40+ points a couple of times this year. The offense is going to score more which will make opposing offenses press. Against our defense, that won't help them. I think our defense will be scoring points as will our special teams. I think we will average 24-28 points per game this year. Also, if we get to the playoffs, don't be surprised if we go deep. Gibbs will find a way to beat teams when he is so close to the top prize...

Re: Ingredients for a Championship
i look at the subtle changes made this offseason, and look at our schedule, and I think we have a realistic shot at 10-6. If we can sweep the Giants, and go out on a limb and say sweep the Cowboys, then split with the Eagles, that's 5 wins. Then if we beat Chicago, San Fran, Seattle, Tampa and Arizona, that's 10 wins. Then there are a few games that could go either way, against St. Louis and Denver. I don't plan on beating Kansas City, Oakland and San Diego.
It just depends on how the matchups end up to me. I wouldn't be suprised with a 10-6 season, but I also wouldn't be suprised at 8-8 either. I think though that we have the potential to be the next Chargers with Cooley, Portis and the smurfs. September 11 vs. Bears - should win September 19 @ Cowboys - could win October 2 vs. Seahawks - should win October 9 @ Broncos - could win October 16 @ Chiefs - should lose October 23 vs. 49ers - should win October 30 @ Giants - could win November 6 vs. Eagles - hope to win November 13 @ Buccaneers - should win November 20 vs. Raiders - should lose November 27 vs. Chargers - should lose December 4 @ Rams - could win December 11 @ Cardinals - should win December 18 vs. Cowboys - could win December 24 vs. Giants - should win January 1 @ Eagles - should lose

Re: Ingredients for a Championship
I think we have solid chance to make the playoffs. It ALL resides on Joe Gibbs offensive playcalling though, IMO.
