$1 Off Pizza For every TD
Domino's had a special on Sundays a dollar off for ever TD the skins scored that day. I think this was a local promotion but Domino's lost their shirt the one season they had the promotion. I was trying to remember what year it was and just can't remember. My first two choices would be 1992 or 1988. I'm pretty sure it was a SB season but I could be wrong. Does anyone remember this promotion and what year it was?

Yes, I remember the promotion and yes it was the 1992 Superbowl season. Opening day, a large pizza with 2 toppings was like 3 bucks.
I keep waiting for them to bring it back. |

Re: $1 Off Pizza For every TD
Didn't they do this in '99 too?
I remember hearing about it after the Skins dropped 50 on the Giants. Good times. |

Re: $1 Off Pizza For every TD
so is Papa Johns not a sponsor anymore cuz they've done that for the DC area for the last couple years? I saw that the local coverage of the Skins is not brought to us by Popeyes whereas it has lately been PJs.

In '99 it was slightly different, for every touchdown you could get an extra topping free or something like that. |

Re: $1 Off Pizza For every TD
Kind of off-topic but I remember back in 2001, after the 9/11 attacks, I wanted to do something for the children of the victims of the attacks on the Pentagon
So I gathered about 20 of my friends and I contacted an organization that was trying to help these kids out (help them with their education, get books and toys for them, stuff like that) So I told them we'd each chip in a dollar for every touchdown the Redskins scored and 50 cents for each field goal. We figured it would add up to a hefty chunk of change. Who would have thought it would turn out to be such an anemic offensive year. Oh well, the thought was there and we did raise money, though not as much as I would have liked Anyway, just a little anecdote since we were talking about touchdown promotions

Re: $1 Off Pizza For every TD
They would have been safe last year to have had that promotion.

Re: $1 Off Pizza For every TD
for around 4 bucks all you can eat, Cici's isn't bad. there is one across the street from work (Bailey's Crossroads) and one 2 minutes from my house (Gaithersburg). however, I always tend to go when it is the most crowded...
not sure when the deals were, but I do remember hearing about local shops running out of pizza. i know now it's a free topping for each TD scored if and when they do the promotion. in college, my fraternity (as a school group) had a deal with a local Domino's, Large 1 topping pizzas for 6 bucks. I know Elliot in the Morning does a Pick 5 promotion with Papa John's. Regular pizza, I prefer PJ's over either The Hut or Domino's, however I'm a thin crust guy, and i think both Domino's and the Hut have better thin crust. Plus, you can't beat the 555 deal...

I have a funny story about having a pizza delivered. The guy showed up at the door with our pizza and I noticed his face was full of pain. Then he commented that he hopes the pizza did not get messed up and I asked him why. He said he went to my neihbors house in error and just ran over to our house. As he ran between house he went by my neihbors boat and forgot about the tung on the trailer. He hit it shin first and already had two large knotts on his legs. I looked at the pizza and you could tell it took a big spill. He said the pizza was free and after I made sure he would not have to pay for it I gave him a 10 dollar tip. He earned it! |
