Well here is what I saw from the 500 level at the game.

1st of all I must say the Redskins still have a lot of support from the Carolina’s as the team colors were spread out all over the stadium. It was probably {I’ll guess} 70/30 in favor of the Panthers, in most stadiums that would be an insult but the Redskins were always the majority favorite around these parts before we got our Panthers, and obviously they still are to some.
Now for the game, I was a little disappointed with the way the skins played. Obviously I didn’t think they could beat us but I also don’t think that anyone can beat us this year as long as we stay healthy. ( most everything im basing off the 1st three drives b/c most our starters were out after that)

I did expect Ramsey to have a better showing in that game because our best safety and our number one corner did not play so our secondary was as weak as it will be all year. ( barring any injuries) and his O-line did a good job against a very good defense, so he had time to look off a read or two. At his defense though he did have a few drops ( but it was everybody’s 1st game)

Portis looked good the little bit he was in ( they did the right thing not playing him any longer, if he goes down, so does your season) he was able to get by our line and that’s all Joe needed to see.

I was also a little disappointed in David Patten, I know this was the 1st game of the pre season but he dropped a couple ( he can’t be doing that he’s on my fantasy league) he was also bested by Gardner in a game im sure he would have rather done better in.

I was happy to see ( well not at the time ) a little of the "old school" Gibbs with that screen play

Now your defense did an ok job with the players that were in there, they got presser on all of our QB’s and brought down one of our back-ups. Jake and Chris did a good job of avoiding the presser but that’s one of Jake’s best qualities so the presser kinda played into our favor early.

Your return guy looks real good, he got some yards on one of the best coverage special teams in the league. ( it’s always a plus when you can get a quick 6 with a kick return)

In summery I guess I was just expecting too much from Gibbs to soon and I so much want the Redskins to win their division this year. It was the 1st game and both teams were not playing all their starters ( our #2 WR was also out along with Davis ) so it’s hard to tell how good either teams will be when the starters play the whole game but like I said I go by what I see in the 1st quarter and maybe next week the 1st half, that’s about all we can do with pre-season games. Now it’s time for the coaches to evaluate what they saw against another team and fix what’s broke and keep doing what works. I have confidence that Joe will get this team in shape and you guys can make a run for that division title again. Yesterday you just ran into a Panther team preparing to make a run at the super bowl. Good luck and now that game is behind us I will be pulling for you guys to win the rest of the season.

i'd be shocked if you guys don't stomp your division this year... you're oline is much better than last year.

I think our D was out 7 starters, including cb #1 and #2, so they didn't look good, but it wasn't unexpected. Our oline is a hundred times better than last year, which helps our running game... if (IF) our passing game gets on track we'll have a chance at the postseason, 15ppg ain't gonna do it though.

first off congrats to both teams on agood effort and most importantly NO injuries.

now, in response to some of what was said in TRUED's post. yes i agree , ramsey did not look as good as i had hoped for and yes portis looked good for what little bit he played, i also think betts as well as nemo looked pretty good running the ball. i wasn't at all dissapointed in patten, i don't recall him dropping any passes( unlike Mcants) i remember ,quite clearly, patten being wide open on at least two occations and ramsey overthrowing him by a mile and as far as gardner outplaying patten, i guess if you look at the stats then that would be true but truely gardner only had 2 catches, one was for 10 yards and the other was a desperation throw by jake because he was about to get crushed gardner did make the catch but he should have easily been called for offensive pass interferrence, he clearly pushed off. that player he pushed off , by the way, is the redskins 4th or 5th cb and our defense was without 7 starters.

That could have been the plays I seen, I was in the endzone on the other side of the field so it looked like dropped passes. As far as the catch from Gardner it could have been defensive pass interference as easy as anything and if that was a 5th or 6th corner is almost certain to have been interference.

I knew the defense was without a few starters ( that’s why I said "with the players that were in there") but we had our best RB and our 2nd best WR out on offence to so let’s don’t start the "if so-and-so were in it would have been different" the stats may have been different but the outcome would have been the same.

Good luck the rest of the season, I think you guys will be able to compete for the division when it all counts and the starters play the whole game.

Stay healthy!!

Re: Well here is what I saw from the 500 level at the game.

I was at the game as well, lower level right behind the Redskins bench. I was pretty bent about the loss but after reflecting a few thoughts.

1. The skins did not look that bad, I know I will get alot of Homerism for this but we did have well over 300 yards in the air, turnovers are what killed us. Brunnell looked good (gasp) and J. Campbell looked in command for the most part.

2. Defense played well considering we had so few bodies to put on the field.

3. O-line seems to be jelling abit. Playing against the best front foour in the league.

Finally watching the guys on the bench, the coaches were really teaching out there and our guys we listening intently, we will only get better.

Good reports, guys, and thanks TrueD--hopefully, we'll meet again this year--in the playoffs!

Red Robert--good to hear about the bench and the teaching aspect--the "outside" media poo-poo Gibbs and his "character" committment, but I beleive that this sort of attitude is going to make a differnce in the long run. It may not be apparent yet, but the seeds are being sown.
