Thoughts on the strategy for Week 1
Okay. If we play vanilla against Da Bearz, but still do enough to win, we go into Dallas 1-0, with Dallas not having any real video of us, as we would not show everything against Chicago. If we managed to pull off the win in Dallas, we would go into our bye week 2-0, with Dallas being at least 1-1, maybe 0-2(which is likely if San Diego continues to play like they did last year.) Now, winning a division game is so huge. If we won that game, we 1.)Are top of the division, 2.)hand a division foe a loss, 3.)Get the damn Dallas Cowboy monkey off our back, hence, giving us some much needed mojo. With all that said, is it worth doing enough to squeak by at Fed Ex, week 1, against a team missing their starting QB?
The downside of this strategy is obvious. We lose against Chicago at home, which brings us down, and we go into Dallas and take another drubbing, continuing the trend. We enter the bye at 0-2. It is a gamble, but do coaches look at things this way? Or do you think the coaches just go one week at a time? I'm just thinking, any leverage we can get against Dallas is huge on so many levels. Thoughts. |

I've kind of always thought like that, if you play a team that isn't as good as the team you play after. Do you unveil your secret weapons, or do you try to wiggle by? I think we should just concentrate on beating the Bears with some of our better plays, not our best. and Then reveal our 'best plays' on the Cowboys.

Re: Thoughts on the strategy for Week 1
I see your strategy. I definetely like it. While Chicagos offense may not be much of a threat, their defense looked pretty strong. 2-0 going into the bye week would be great for morale, preparation, and to hopefully have minimal injuries going into our next few games. So, the question is, how much of an advantage do we gain on Dallas if they arent familiar with our playbook?

Re: Thoughts on the strategy for Week 1
I think we game plan different according to the strengths and weaknesses of the opponents. So, we might not have the same game plan going into every game to begin with. While certainly, there are some plays that will be our meat and potatoes plays, I don't believe our game plan will be an exact replica week in and week out.

Run the ball, throw the ball, score more TDs than the other team, and for god sake win the game!
p.s. I'm in Italy now but I've been keeping up the Skins. Things need to get better fast! |

One game at a time, you start looking past an opponent and you lose games you should win.

Re: Thoughts on the strategy for Week 1
I seriously doubt they'd go for that sort of strategy. Maybe if we were the Pats or something, but we've got a lot of question marks, no doubt. Step one: beat Chicago. Worry about week 2 then. You can't worry about saving stuff at this point. We just need to get some postive momentum. That will be the biggest help in Dallas.
Btw, I'm sure Gibbs has a few things up his sleve for the roids--it's obviously been on his mind, given the ugliest fans comment.

Re: Thoughts on the strategy for Week 1
Never ever ever ever ever ever ever take any other NFL team for granted. Your opinion of the Bears may not be high, but it's exactly what's great about the NFL: anyone can win on any given Sunday.
Gameplan to beat their brains in. Do whatever it takes to win. Worry about Dallas later. |

Re: Thoughts on the strategy for Week 1
i think we should just play the game, one game at a time, cliche, but it you think we will win against the bears, who have an underrated defence, by just using vanilla plays, i think you have another thing coming. dont worry about the cowboys until its time to play them.

If we go up by 35 points, I don't think we should reveal anymore plays.

I would only promise to stop scoring points if the other team promised not to come back and beat me.

Re: Thoughts on the strategy for Week 1
I think people are betting too much on our inadequacies and losses being secondary to us keeping our cards close to our chests. I still see problems with our offense on all fronts, other preseason games have shown offenses scoring and moving the ball w/o showing their cards. I hope I'm suprised with an offense which can produce the first regular season game.
