More Positives

There have been so much negatives from the media, I had to share this positive from PFW........

HEART OF REDSKINS DEFENSE MIGHT BE RIGHT UP FRONT

There certainly are more talented units on the team, but the Redskins defensive line might be the most competitive and hardest working group on the team. Throughout camp, the core group of DTs Griffin, Salavea and Noble and DE's Daniels and Wynn have displayed excellent hustle, moving quickly between drills and executing even the most minor of excercises with speed and efficiency. With most of the team's big name talent lying in the secodnary and at linebacker, the lines play--namely that of Griffin--should not be overlooked in terms of what it means to the overall success of the NFL's No 3 ranked defense last season. If Daniels can stay healthy and Wynn can be productive again, this group should be in fine shape. The depth is also better with DT Boschetti, a former practice squad player, coming on and last year's solid DE reserves Evans and Warner continuing to make progress.

They also praised Antonio Brown==Brown has earned praise from the staff for his good play, although one insider wonders how much of an impact he'll really make this season.

Of course they had to dice us a bit too--
although QB Campbell has shown a good arm, he needs work reading defenses and cutting down his long throwing motion.

And one source described the Redskins TE group this way,
Cooley and a bunch of guys.......SELLERS-a special teams player,
Royal-has shown little as a starter, The team might consider adding someone in the future.

Royal played well for us last year. As well as Cooley. Our TE's may not be Tony Gonzalez, Antonio Gates, etc...but, they get their job done.

I think the media likes to criticize the offense, perhaps as a dig to Joe Gibbs....since they are calling him over the hill, and saying he never should've come back ...............no respect, no respect.

When it comes to tight-ends Gibbs has always pretty much used role-players. Such as Don Warren, Clint Didier, and Doc Walker, and a few others. None of these were Pro-Bowlers, but they were undoubtedly very important to the running game as well as the pass blocking.

My point is, what a tight-end means to San Diego or KC may mean nothing to us, especially when it comes to looking at stats. Our tight-ends/H-backs have never been big in stats but big in grit and intangibles and that's one thing the media never really looks at IMO.

although royal doesnt suck big time, he can definitely be upgraded after this year, but if not we will be ok hopefully

A name that I think may become more prominent in the future is Nic Clemons.

The guy has great size, decent athleticism, and a nose for the ball. I wouldn't be surprised to see him pass Warner or Evans on the depth chart and get some playing time (as long as he makes the roster).

Also a quote I heard from Cornelius when he was leaving the stadium on Friday. I was standing on the front row and heard him say:

Looking at how things are shaping for the Bears, it had better be lower. I just hope we don't have an opening day let down. No way they should beat us.

I get the impression that Cooley is going to be more of a receiving TE/H-B than any of them were back in the day, especially since we lack the big target WR now (I have doubts about Dyson sticking around or staying healthy). The rest of them will be the role players, but it seems that Gibbs has discovered that they really have something special with Chris, so Joe--as usual--is adapting the offense to play to his player's strengths.
