Any last minute free agent pickups?

Just throwing this out for discussion. Apparently Peter Warrick is being released today. Given Taylor Jacobs injury history, if we could sign him for very little should we have any interest? Also, if we could sign Cory Simon for a 1 year deal for cheap, should we?

No and we couldn't.

I don't think Cory would sign a 1 year deal he is looking for a big pay day. He was going to receive a little over five mil this year with Phil.

The thing about it is, this late into the preseason I don't think anyone will pay him that much. He's gonna have to settle for something less than what he's looking for. And he will most likely receive just a 1 yr deal.

Someone will pay him and pay him good. This late in the season is irrelevant to a team who needs a pass rush.

I would think that with his talent he could pick up a 3 to 5 year deal and a D tackle can pick up a D pretty quick.

I don't think so. I think it's in Simon's best interest to sign a one-year deal and then try to get his big payday next summer. At this point, the number of teams that can shell out a big signing bonus is very small. He doesn't have a lot of negotiating partners when it comes to a big contract.

I think he'll push for a 1-year deal when he realizes that nobody can afford to give him a big bonus right now. I don't think we could afford him though, I think he'd get at least $3 million for one year of play. Plus I like our DTs. Griffin is obviously awesome at penetrating and Salavea complements him so well because he's so stout against the run. Boschetti is playing really well too.

So we should sign another injured WR to replace Jacobs? Doesn't sound like a good plan to me.

As for Simon, if he came super cheap I'd be all for it, but I highly doubt we could fit him under our cap.

I know we could not afford him but he let 5mil go so I would think that he would be looking for more money. Their are several teams that have pleny of cap room for him. I would think that his agent has a feel for the market and thats why they they did not sign the 5mil deal with Philly. I could be wrong of course.

Actually reports here in Eagle-town are saying that he was planning on coming in and signing the tender this week to play for the $5 million. The Eagles heard that, and they pulled the offer off the table so they could have cap room to resign a few other players (maybe Brian Westbrook, John Runyan, Sheldon Brown?) to long term extensions.

Reid let him go because he felt he has good DTs already in Rayburn, Patterson, Grasmanis, and Hollis Thomas. If he brought Simon back he would have had to cut a pretty good DT just in the roster numbers game. But the move also gives them $15 million in cap room right now. Imagine that. They can give Brian Westbrook a $10 million bonus if they want, in the form of a roster bonus so the cap figure hits all this year. Then next year and beyond, Westbrook would count against the cap as if he were some rookie 5th rounder. I hate them so much, but they're the masters of smart cap management.

Re: Any last minute free agent pickups?

I just heard that Peerless Price is being released from the Falcons, do we have the cap room to sign him, or should we go after Peter Warrick or Corey Simon?

I think we're good on WRs right now.

Man, Peerless has really been a bust ever since he's been without Eric Moulds on the other side hasn't he?

Re: Any last minute free agent pickups?

i'd try to go after Koren Robinson, after his rehab he would be cheap (1 year big on encentives) and a change of scenary may do him well like shawn springs
