Two Hypothetical Questions...

1. Would you trade Fred Smoot for a mid to late first round pick this year plus a 4th or 5th round pick this year?

2. Would you trade the #5 pick in the draft plus Trotter plus a 4th round pick next year for the #1 pick in the draft this year.

Would you do both deals this month or just one or none?

No and No.

1. While Smoot may not be the greatest corner out there, he seems to be turning into a real team leader. I wouldn't trade him unless the offer was much higher - couple of number 1's (this year and next) and a two or three. I don't see that happening in any scenario.

2. What would we get at number 1 that we can't get at number 5? Why trade next year's pick's for essentially no value this year. (I would do it if we could then broker the number 1 for a pick which gets us Taylor and 2nd's or 3rd's this year - which, for the record, I think may be in the works but with Gardner rather than Trotter).

Your #1 question is tempting, but I really like Smoot and losing two good CB's in one year is too much. The new arrivals at CB are good but all have question marks (either injury, age or durabilty). Smoot might be the only one left standing after the hitting starts.

Question #2 is not a good idea because we do not need a QB, WR or Left tackle.
Those are the players that are projected to go #1.

Why would we want the number one pick? The only way I could see us wanting the number one pick was if there was stud D-line men that we would have to move up to get. But there isn't one in this years draft and we can get the drafts best defensive player at 5.

I wouldn't do either, but if forced to choose, I guess I'd choose the second one just because I don't want to part with Smoot.

1) Don't want to, but if the offer is made on draft day, and the right player is there, it can't be off the table. Smoot has shown a lot of toughness, but there will likely be a contract situation next year, and that won't be the case with a mid-first round pick. My vote is no, until I know exactly what's available with the pick.

2) Owning the number one pick doesn't make sense for the Skins. If a deal is in place to then trade #1 to, say, the Giants for the #4 and their 3rd & 4th round picks, then bye-bye Trotter (or Trottier - if he's leaving, it's fun to pretend he's French).

I would have to agree with Joe R. No on trading Smoot. We don't have anyone good enough to replace him, and even if we drafted one of the top corners with that #1 pick, he might not turn out to be as good as Smoot. Smoot hasn't been great, but he has been very good.
I don't see trading up to #1- we don't need a QB, and I'm sure 2 of the picks that go before us will be Manning and Roethlesberger. The other worthy of that pick is Gallery, and we already have Samuels and Jansen. The only other players being mentioned in the other top spots are receivers, and we certainly don't need any of those, so we can sit at #5 and get the player we want (Taylor- I believe KWII is out of the running now that he signed with the Postons) or trade down and hopefully pick up a second round pick....

I'd definitly keep Smoot around, however I would take the second one in a heartbeat. Ok, we trade our #5 pick, we trade Trotter (he was gone anyways) and we trade a 4th rounder next year (I think we've all decided we can't spot talent past the 3rd.) Now, everyon'e right about not needing a WR, QB, or Guard. However, the trade we could get in return for the #1 pick this year is huge! We could basicly auction Eli Manning off to the highest bidder. I think in the long run we would get a lot more value out of doing the #2 scenario than keeping our current #5 pick. I think we could trade it down and still land Winslow, Taylor, or a D linemen. Not to mention numerous other picks, especially if we toss Rod Gardner or someone in to sweeten the deal!

1. Keep Fred.

2. Whom would we draft at #1? I'd like to see Udeze and Taylor but not if we kill ourselves to do it.

Absolultey wouldnt do either.

Smoot is a very big asset to our team. I love the guys determination and hes one hell of a player. I wouldnt trade him for anything, it just creates another hole.

There isnt anyone worth trading up for. If we want Taylor, odds are he will probobly fall to us, same with KW II. In addition, theres no dlinemen who would go first. So theres no reason to make the trade.

1) Definitely not for a late first round pick. Perhaps for a top 10, since then we might have a shot at getting both Taylor and Winslow. Even then we'd be opening up another big hole in defense. Besides, I really like Smooty.

2) Only if we thought we could trade down again and pick up both Taylor and Winslow. (Anyone see a pattern emerging here? ) But I don't see how we could do that. Who has two top ten picks that they could give to us? Would it even make sense to trade up for the #1 only to trade back down?

We wouldn't get two first rounders, but maybe a 1st and a 3rd. We'd get more picks and still probably get one of our guys.

1) wouldnt trade smoot unless we got a top 10 pick so we could get udeze and taylor. i dont see that happening but i think thats what hes worth to our deffense.

2) nothing we could get at the 1 we need that we couldnt get at the 5. there will be only wr qbs and gallery going in the top 4.

Smoot is the man, I would not get rid of him.

Now Trotter, that's a different story. If the deal was right, then I would have to donate my Jerimiah Trotter jersey to charity.
