Looking forward-Keys to the game MNF
Ok guys, the Ramsey/Brunell thing is getting beaten to death let's look ahead to the keys to victory Monday night..
1. Stop Julius Jones- The linebackers need to make their prescence made in the backfield and not let Jones get going or break big runs.. The more the game is in Bledsoe's hands the better off we are.. 2. Pressure Bledsoe into bad decisions- Drew has shown that he will hold on to the ball for-e-ver and can be rattled if pressured.. Gregg Williams should know his weaknesses and be able to exploit some to our advantage. 3. 3 1st Half big plays in the passing game- The Chargers showed that the ball can be moved against the Cowboys 'D'. The Skins need to hit a couple of big plays against the Cowboys big, but not athletic CB to loosen things up for Portis to make some plays. Any other keys you guys can think of? |

I think we have to protect the football and not have ANY turnovers. If we can do that, we have a good chance to win this game.

Re: Looking forward-Keys to the game MNF
I agree. I really really really have a good feeling about this game.
1) No turnovers. This is extremely essential. Gibbs obviously has been stressing mistake-free football. Even if we take a few sacks, I'd rather that than forcing INTs. 2) Keep up the good work with penalties. We've been great thus far especially Dockery. 3) Keep the pressure off Brunell with Portis and Betts. If we can get the running game going, we have the explosiveness at WR to throw slants here and there and let them catch and run.

Re: Looking forward-Keys to the game MNF
So hard to do this without mentioning the QB switch, but I'll try.
Dallas's switch to the 3-4 was brought on primarily by Parcells's distrust of his secondary. Outside of Roy Williams, he has no game-changers, so he wanted an extra mobile player back there. If our QB can not force the secondary to play back and respect the 15+ yard pass, then Williams may as well be a linebacker. 3 lineman and 5 linebackers will seal any rush lanes that Portis or Betts may find. Success with the deep ball doesn't necessarily mean 3 or more 20+ plays, but it does mean 3 or more legitimate shots at them. The more field Dallas has to cover, the better our offense will be. Defensively, we match up well. The receivers are not going to beat us long unless we let them. The TE is a good receiver and can't be forgotten. The LBs can't ignore a promising back in Jones. Bledsoe needs to be made to move, because he can't. Even if we don't get the sacks, pressure on the QB that changes his passing lanes will hurt their air attack. Finally, no turnovers on special teams.

Re: Looking forward-Keys to the game MNF
I feel we have enough people to take care of Witten (I trust LaVar, Washington, and Taylor to go 1-1 with him and lock him down) I'm worried about Terry Glen -- I hope Harris still has the speed to keep up with him, I think Springs can eliminate Keshawn from the picture, but Glenn could burn us. I feel confident in our defense vs their offense, though we saw how fast they can score. Williams really needs to put a hurting on Bledsoe early, we didn't get any pressure on Orton and that scares me against Bledsoe.
I feel even more important than turnovers will be big plays, like Brud said. We need to back the secondary up and complete some long balls. We need to keep their defense on the field, we need to run right at Ware, and we need to have that defense tired by the end of the game. Control the ball and make some big passing plays and this is ours. As long as we dont lose the ball on our 20 again, turnovers, though bad, hopefully wont be critical. Worst thing we can do is run 3 times, punt and play defense to try to win it. We need first downs late in the game.

Re: Looking forward-Keys to the game MNF
Winning the special teams game is going to be important. Field position is a key factor in winning when you have a good D and an iffy O.
On offence a few big plays must at least be attempted even at the possible cost of an INT. This is especially true early on in the game. If they are allowed to put 8 men in box all day long our running game won't produce enough yards. I think we need to score 1st or at least early on try to take the crowd out of it. Plus this isn't the type of team to make a 14 point comeback. On D the front 4 must find a pass rush without the need for a lot biltzes. Bledsoe has to feel presure and since he is likely the least mobile QB we'll see all year someone ought to get to him. I am glad this game is in Dallas the last thing we need is Mark B to have a slow start and then hear boos all day long.

Re: Looking forward-Keys to the game MNF
3rd down conversions and TOP is essential! We need to keep J. Jones off the field. Parcells is a freaking master at holding on to the ball, so we need to win that battle.
Also, going hand and hand with that, we really need to have positive yards on 1st down - we can't afford alot of loss of yards, cause we can't rely on the passing game to bail us out! Good runs on 1st and 2nd down will make for managealbe 3rd downs.

Re: Looking forward-Keys to the game MNF
My keys for the game are simple:
1st - No turnovers! 2nd - Put pressure on Bledsoe. Force him to make mistakes. 3rd - Avoid any costly penalties. 4th - Contain Julius Jones Last but not least - Run the ball, run the ball, and take some shots downfield. We have to make them respect our passing game some way or another. |

Re: Looking forward-Keys to the game MNF
Brunell has to prove to the world (and me) that he's changed from last year and can really sling that thing. and for an entire game if need be, not just the several series or a half like in preseason.
if he doesn't establish the *notion* of his arm right away, the safties will join that Parcells 3-4 and really pinch us on the run from the beginning. Last edited by illdefined; 09-14-2005 at 02:37 PM. |

Re: Looking forward-Keys to the game MNF
AS stated Bledsoe is no longer with NE because of turnovers
1) Hit Bledsoe 2) Hit him again 3) Put him DOWN 4) keep him down 5) Use a blade if necessary!!! |

Re: Looking forward-Keys to the game MNF
1. Minimize turnovers and penalties.
2. Control the line of scrimmage. 3. Pressure and hit Bledsoe. 4. Take occasional shots downfield on first and second down. 5. Get the ball in the endzone...don't settle for field goals. 6. And finally: Score more points than the opponent!!! |
