Big hit, no fine
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2163543
The NFL has decided not to fine Bears linebacker Lance Briggs for his hit on Redskins quarterback Patrick Ramsey because it determined it wasn't illegal. Briggs leveled a high hit to Ramsey that wasn't flagged. |

Re: Big hit, no fine
I really don't get it.
How does clotheslining a QB across the neck and bouncing his head off the ground not bring a fine? Let me say this, if that was Peyton Manning, do you think there would have been a flag and a fine? Of course. How about this, if LaVar or Taylor were the ones doing the clotheslining, think there would be fines handed out? Definitely. On a side note, what's up with this supposed new horse-collar rule?? Did they call it even once last weekend? I saw it a few times in different games and no calls. I think even Madden mentioned it. |

Re: Big hit, no fine
nope i have seen a few horse collars but none called, one i think was on betts in the preseason.
It is bullshit, if that was taylor i know that would have been 15 yards plus a fine. Why doesn't nfl network give him an "attaboy". Stupid stupid refs. by the way the horse collar rule wouldn't even be in effect unless TO didn't get hurt. I think it doesn't matter who the player is, a rule is a rule and that was a 15 yarder + fine |

Re: Big hit, no fine
Funny, I remember seeing a few horse collar tackles by the opposing team( in the preseason), and not once was it ever called! So, I'm not sure why we are scratchin' our heads over this one. I say, if they won't call it, let our players do the samething!

Re: Big hit, no fine
A complete crock of horse sh**. Outrageous. The point of the rule is to protect QBs, not to play semantics with the question of where the shoulders end and the head and neck begin.
If that's Taylor, it's $15,000, no doubt. And I saw at least 2 horsecollar tackels in that game. One is on Betts in the second half, the other is at the end of Moss's long reception. Watch again how Moss is tackeld by the collar only out of bounds. I'm tired of it. We just are not going to get respect from the officials, clearly. Just one more thing we've got to over come. Not even going to go into that Cooley "interference" call.

Re: Big hit, no fine
It really does make you feel like the officiating crews hate the Redskins. Week in, week out we see a blatantly flaggable foul on our guys (or the Cooley non-foul flag) and it drives you nuts.
For that to be no fine is bad, but I'm more upset at the fact it took Ramsey out of a game he was getting comfotable in. Now we may never know. Anyone in stripes hates the Redskins. |

Re: Big hit, no fine
When did the refs become such a joke. I don't remember them being this bad. The last few years have been aweful. Is it Snyder hatred perhaps?

Re: Big hit, no fine
Briggs was sort of knocked off his line while he was in the air. Unfortunately it was in the worst direction possible. I guess that's why they didn't fine him.

Re: Big hit, no fine
This is horse shit. It pisses me off that certain QB's are given a bulletproof vest while others are hung out to dry.

Briggs got by Jansen, so Jansen pushed the Briggs from behind. The push was so hard it caused Briggs to lose his balance and actually slightly lifted Briggs in the air. Briggs out of instinct reached down to take down Ramsey and it caught him in the throat. This is equal to: 1) when a QB ducks to try to escape a sack, he lowers his head and the tackler inadvertantly hits the QB's head. or 2) when a WR jumps straight up in the air and catches a ball in bounds, but the DB pushes out of bounds. The ref will call it a completion every time. Jansen's push caused the unfortunate result, not the players intention. If Jansen had not pushed Briggs, Briggs probably would not have gone for his Ramsey's neck. |

Re: Big hit, no fine
It doesn't matter the officiating has sucked and some terrible calls that have screwed the skins. I know several peoiple will say you never should be in a position to let the refs decide a game, but damn the refs have cost us some games. Several phantom interference calls last year with the cowboys. The Chargers game, and even to the point this year the Cooley call back that in perspective led to them being on the field and Ramsey getting his head taking off. I know their are more games because I can't remeber countless times arguing with opposing teams fans on bullshit calls that effected the game drastically. It sucks and the refs do also.
