My biggest concern right now is IF we got the lead, would we consider to press it like Denver is now. It's not impossible for KC to come back, but it certainly could happen. I love to see a team still aggressive up by 27 points. Those who remember Gibbs' first era well, would he stay aggressive or was he always this conservative?

He never had a stiffling defense like the one he has now. I think it mentally handicaps him into going conservative.

I think its overkill on Denver's part--what's the point? I'm all for aggressive, but I think I'd run the ball and run the clock. KC will remember this when they play again.

Gibbs is about ball control. We used to get the ball at the beginning of the 4th quater and hold it for like 9 minutes and score a TD. It would just crush teams. No flash, no tricks--just: we're gonna run it down your throat, and there's nothing you can do about it. I think it was the last playoff win Gibbs had against Minnesota. They just ran that team into the ground. That's the way to run out a game--not with revereses and bootlegs and playpasses. Just my opinion.

It depends on what you call conservative and where you are in the season. Most recently in Gibbs 1 era, (1991) he ran it up on Detroit (12-4) 45-0 in Week 1, 34-0 on Arizona (4-12) in Week 3, and 23-0 on Philadelphia (10-6) in Week 5. So I guess he has a little more mercy as the season goes on...although he did run it up 56-17 on the Falcons (10-6) in Week 11.

I look forward to the day when we consider not running the score up on the opponents. Last time I remember I was at the Skins at Giants game in NY when we won 51-17. Or whatever it was. It was joyous! The other times were back to the early nineties.

We really haven't had many chances to see what would happen, but we did beat the Giants pretty handedly last year 31-7.

Look at some of the comebacks in the past, especially the Tampa Indy game from last year. Reverses and play action are all part of the game and your game plan. If you steer from that gameplan that is when things go sour. I don't think any team game plans for a blow out and this is what we will do if that happens. Stick to your game plan and everything you did to beat that team. That is what teams are paid to do execute that game plan and the other team should have game planned and executed to stop even a reverse or play action, nothing spectacular about those plays good D's stop them all the time. Some of those trick plays or passes could have been picked etc... and turned the score and momentum around in a hurry. Bottom line do not let up. Kansas City is very capable of putting up 21 points in a quarter to come back and win that game as well as many teams can a mass 7 or 14 on us it just takes one or two mistakes. Grinding it out just does not work because teams can drive the field in less than a minute when you go three and out grinding it out.

Like someone else said, it would depend on where we were at during the season. In our last SB year, we handed out quite a few routs. Gibbs, though, has never been one to pile it on knowing the game was won. Maybe unless we were playing a team with a highly potent offense. So, we did protect our lead, but not the ultra conservative way we did last year.

You get the point though, any team can put together even if the offense is not that effective to overcome a 14 or 21 point lead. Look at us 14 points in 3 1/2 minutes and I would not call our offense yet the most stellar. So a Kansas City who is known for putting up some points could do exactly that and this week for us the Seahawks can put some drives together hope we do not go conservative with a 3 or 7 point lead in the 4th Qtr. 14 I think would be hard with our D, but Special teams play could pose an issue they scare me sometimes.

Well, I asked because I would fully expect Gibbs, the way things are going, to do 3 runs up this middle with Portis and punt when Denver was throwing the ball and mixing in some good runs. They were able to burn tons of time off the clock which is extremely important, in my opinion. I hate seeing us put a tired defense into the game (who had already been on the field forever) to try to hold onto the game, we lost 3 games that way last year because we couldn't convert a first down to kill the clock. I think our end of game playcalling, especially with a lead, needs to really go for the throat.

I could not agree more, mixing up plays with pass and run is the way to go. The Portis 50 Gut is just not cutting it. I can see if the team is out of timeouts, but teams are stopping the clock with their timeouts and getting the ball back because we just are not converting due to conservative play calling. Grinding out the clock means you run effectively, convert 1st downs. All we are doing is grinding out 6 yards and about twenty seconds off the clock.

indy or maybe the rams have the chance to score fast... KC is dependent on an OLine and running, so they score a lot, but it takes them more time since they tend to dink and dunk more. But i agree that becoming predictable and playing not to lose has lost us games before and i'd hate to see it happen again and again and again...
