Should Ray Brown Be starting?

Hey guys i really concerned about this situation. Ray Brown is really bad and really old. He was bad last year, its just nobody noticed because when you right tackle in the GIbbs offense you always have a tight end protecting you. He is old and can't pull which is vital for the guard position. I really think we should be playing jim malinaro instead.

What other option do we have? We really don't have anything better. We should definitely look at signing quality guards in the off-season.

Re: Should Ray Brown Be starting?

I'm not that worried, I mean Ray Brown is a natural guard. He's played that position in the NFL for two decades. Last year he was asked to play out of position at tackle. Obviously, it's a drop from Thomas but I don't think it's that bad.

First of all, everyone noticed how bad he was last year at tackle. Secondly, he had to play the entire season, which a 42 year old body struggles doing. This time around he's fresh and can put it all on the line. If he wasn't any good, he would not be playing this week. And it's Jim Molinaro, and he's a tackle. We will be fine, stop worrying. The Giants are missing their best DT, William Joseph, who would normally line up across from Brown. Instead, it will be backup vs. backup.

I think he'll be fine.

Of course we'll miss Thomas to a degree, but overall I think Brown is more than capable of stepping in and doing a very good job.

Like TAFKAS said, he was playing out of position last year... and I'd argue he did an admirable job. He should be just fine at guard again.

Brown is also just a few years removed from being a Pro Bowler.

Well let's not get carried away now.

Ray Brown is a great guy but I think he'll be challenged tomorrow. Guess time will tell.

I'm really worried about the fans. Someone said that it won't be a full house tomorrow, because it's Xmas eve, and there are a lot of tickets for sale through brokers, on websites, eBay, etc. I just hope everyone shows up and it's as loud as last week.

Re: Should Ray Brown Be starting?

There's nothing crazy about stating the facts.

Of course he won't play at the level Thomas played, but Brown is VERY strong up the middle. In agreement with TAFKAS, I believe that guard is his natural position.

Re: Should Ray Brown Be starting?

brown is too slow to play OT now, and he's more of a natural guard anyways (he's played more there than OT). For one game I think he'll be good, he's fresh and he's got lots of experience.

if he wasn't the best option, he wouldn't be out there.

Yes, he should be starting.
Brunell and the entire redskins team played really bad last year, why single Brown out? There are other guys that played as bad or worse than Ray last year.

If the coaching staff wants to plar Ray, then play him. I trust that coaching staff's opinion over yours. You are not at practice evryday to see how Molinaro and the other o-lineman are playing. Buges is there and I think he knows what he is doing.

Ray Brown is an outstanding guard. He is not a tackle. He played tackle to help the team out last year when nobody else could step up in the coaches eyes. No need to disrespect Ray when he has not even played an entire game at his natural position yet this year. He played pretty good last week.

Re: Should Ray Brown Be starting?

all he has to do is last two games, and maybe 3 more if we go into the playoffs. even ray brown can handle that. Guard is his natural position, and he did make the pro bowl in 2001. He's not Randy Thomas, but he's a damn good backup. We will have to adjust because we know he cannot pull on those stretch plays like randy can. Maybe we will run to the left side of the line more because of this. We will have to make adjustments, but if i had to choose i would put ray brown in there.

Yea and the Giants are also missing a linebacker who is somewhat important. Cough, cough, AP. So they will be missing key players as well.

Re: Should Ray Brown Be starting?

I wanted to pop this thread back to the top to give Ray Brown a nice shout out. We haven't heard his name much since the media made a big deal of how old he was going into the Giants game. We've rushed for over 150 yards in the last two games with him in. I admit I was a touch concerned, and we all know he's not Randy Thomas, but he's stepped up big to play for the team, just like everyone else.

BIG UPS TO OLD MAN BROWN!!!
