If we suck next year on defense, then I'll be prepared to guess that Williams has lost his touch. Until then, I'm not willing to say a guy with Williams' resume has lost his touch based on 9 games in one season. |

Re: Stop blaming the coaches especially Greg Williams
Sometimes when things are going wrong, you tend to lose sight of the things you know you can do right. I think that is what has happened to this defense. Everybody on the D is trying to scramble to make THE PLAY that turns things around instead of playing as a team...swarming around the ball, and helping each other out in the secondary on coverage. They need to go back to basics.

He was the defensive coordinator in Tennessee when they went to the super bowl. They always had a top defense when he was there. Then he built a good defense when he was the head coach in buffalo too. edit: Here are all his defenses since he first became the defensive coordinator in Tennessee in 1997 ......................................Yards Points 1997 Tennessee Oilers........ 22nd. 12th 1998 Tennessee Oilers........ 14th.. 12th 1999 Tennessee Titans....... 18th.. 15th 2000 Tennessee Titans....... 2nd... 2nd 2001 Buffalo Bills................ 21st.. 29th 2002 Buffalo Bills................ 15th.. 27th 2003 Buffalo Bills................ 2nd... 5th 2004 Washington Redskins... 3rd.... 5th 2005 Washington Redskins... 9th.... 9th He has improved the defenses a lot every place he has gone to.

Re: Stop blaming the coaches especially Greg Williams
The defense was ranked fith that year. His offense was ranked 31st. That means opposing teams had to score, very little.

I don't know how you can judge Williams' defense in Buffalo considering that a few minutes ago you didn't even know where else he coached. BTW, the Buffalo D was fierce.

Re: Stop blaming the coaches especially Greg Williams
Let's put this into context.... What really is taken to consideration when talking about GW? The real issue is whether or not you want to keep him. As an owner... You've got to hold on to him. He is a proven NFL caliber coach, and one bad year plagued by injuries, does not require you abandon ship.
Whereas you can't use Pierson's injury as an excuse... don't exclude it as a non-factor. The blame game can go to anyone... but if you ask me I think the problem is more likely the talent on the field, as opposed to the coaching. Does some of that burden go onto the coach, absolutley... but he by no mean has "lost his touch".

Come on fellas! This is the third season of Gibb II! This is HIS team. As head coach, he has assembled this staff and this roster! It just ain't working! Gibbs II is now 19-22! Don't hate the players, if anything hate their employer or the coach who wanted them. A good GM might have made a difference.

Re: Stop blaming the coaches especially Greg Williams
OK, those are the defenses I thought we were speaking of. The 2000 Titans defense was ranked 15th. The buffalo Defenses were fairly good, but they lost alot of games. I think calling me an idiot for asking a question, is pretty immature. I am not an encyclopedia. I just wanted a little clarification on what defenses we were speaking of. I am not a tremendous fan of GW's style of defense. We were vulnerable to the big play last year to. I like old fashion defenses that put pressure on the quarter back with the front four. Blitzing is cool, but you cant live on it.
