Re: Mort: Chicago Not Interested in Briggs' Trade
Hmm, I still don't like the idea of Dan Snyder "joking" at a bar, presumably after a few drinks, about trading first round draft picks for a disgruntled player anxious to play for another team.
For once, it would be nice to read reports of top members of the Redskins front office taking their job seriously. |

Re: Mort: Chicago Not Interested in Briggs' Trade
Maybe the Bears are posturing to show Briggs how much they value him, then offer him a little more once the season nears. That way both sides can save face. They are a smart but stingy front office, they will try to either get 2 1st rounders, offer him a little more (like 35 mil, 7 yrs.), or let him holdout.
I appreciate what anybody on here has said, we don't need to keep chasing other team's property, but on paper this was a good deal for the Skins & that's why the Bears rejected it. I was just thinking who might spring for Briggs? I can't come up w/any ideas. Philly has been LB shopping, but he's expensive & will cost picks, something they don't like to give up. The G-men could be in the running. New Orleans? Maybe they think they're a player away? |

Re: Mort: Chicago Not Interested in Briggs' Trade
Does anyone think that Snyder intentionally low-balled the offer? He may have offered the same deal we gave AA & Loyd, which would be a steal in this market. That may be why the deal fell through, since it was contingent on a long-term contract for Briggs. Snyder may have made a one-time offer. If he did, you couldn't blame him for trying. How would people here feel if we got Briggs for something like 10-12 mil signing bonus?
The Bears may have just spinned it to say they're not interested. |

Tampa Bay could be interested in him, since he's from the same D scheme, but I don't think Gruden would want to miss a chance to draft CJ.

Re: Mort: Chicago Not Interested in Briggs' Trade
Let this nonsense be done with! If we really offered this deal and Chicago turned it down they would be nuts and thats why I doubt it ever was offered as reported.

Re: Mort: Chicago Not Interested in Briggs' Trade
Great news, it's still a little disconcerning that Snyder was even thinking about doing this, and I thought we might have seen a change in the tide, guess not, unless this was a joke Snyder, and Rosenhaus had planned, which is great if it was. Good one Danny Boy.

I can't help but think there is something very fishy here, and I will be shocked if this actually happens.

Re: Mort: Chicago Not Interested in Briggs' Trade
This is from sportsline:
A source close to Washington owner Daniel Snyder on Tuesday denied the club is close to making a deal for Chicago linebacker Lance Briggs. "Not true," he said. Reports indicated that Washington is willing to switch first-round positions with Chicago -- sacrificing the sixth overall pick for the 31st -- to gain Briggs, the Bears' unhappy franchise player. But that's not true, either, said the source. "That's just Drew talking," he said. Drew is Drew Rosenhaus, the agent for Briggs, and it was he who escorted the Bears' linebacker to a table Monday night where Snyder was dining at the annual NFL owners' meetings. Also there, according to others, were Washington's vice president of football operations Vinny Cerrato and Baltimore owner Steve Bischiotti. Anyway, the source said, Rosenhaus said something about how much Briggs could do for the Redskins and suggested Snyder make a deal for him. Snyder responded by saying the Redskins and Bears should switch first-round positions to gain Briggs. "It was innocent and meant as a joke," said the source, "but it's taken off." |

Re: Mort: Chicago Not Interested in Briggs' Trade
I don't think joking around in a social setting should be misconstrued as someone not taking their job seriously.
I don't think Snyder reached his level of success by not taking things seriously. Lighten up Skins fans, this was a joke from the start and a lot of us bought into it hook, line, and sinker. |
