Shefter is saying he had his right index finger amputated.

Re: All things off season 2015.

That's horrible. Saw the report on ESPN. Totally crazy and hard to imagine it would affect his play. Sad and really a dumb, avoidable injury.

Nice, Jerry Garcia style. Hell of a way to pay homage especially during the 50 year anniversary shows.

Wow this sucks, didn't think it was that serious and now I feel bad for him.

From what i'm reading online, people adjust remarkably well and very quickly to finger amputations. Depending on extent (whole finger, partial, etc), and his physical/psychological recovery -- I'm betting he surprises and is back to normal mid-season.

Re: All things off season 2015.

Wow, Schefty posted JPP's actual medical chart. That's a big deal and the hospital will get into serious trouble over this, with certainty of lawsuit for millions.

With that info, looks like JPP had a "ray amputation", which is explained here with pictures. Basically, they're going to take out all remaining parts of the index finger, so he can use the middle finger for handgrip instead.

From the article, "However, conversion to a ray amputation can narrow the palm and result in a loss of grip strength and pronation strength.. [They] found that power grip, key pinch, and supination strength are diminished by approximately 20% of normal with index ray amputations.[19] Pronation strength is diminished by 50% in the same group of patients. "

The end result is-- JPP will likely come back, but his handgrip will be weaker. I suspect he'll still be quick but the grip strength may limit a little of what he was able to do before.

All because this idiot couldn't use something that would blow him up. I swear many of these guys are absolute morons.

Apparently JPP wasn't the only one that lost a finger.

We all do/did stupid things when we were young. But I just don't get playing around with fireworks. Just was never ever my thing.

Re: All things off season 2015.

I have probably detonated.......10 truckloads of fireworks in my life for one thing or another. It's relatively basic sort of stuff:

Don't put on your head
Don't cause digits to fall/cut off etc.
light the fuse
GTF outta' the way
Ooooh/Aaaaaah
If the outcome varies from the detail here, extreme amounts of narcotics.....alcohol or sundry other intoxicants can generally be found at the root.....
Real sorry for JPP......But "come on man"
