"Believers" and fans are two different things. Believers are the type of people that think everything is fine, and Washington will be 13-3 or 12-4 at the worst at the end of this season. I actually heard that from a few people after the Giants game.

I am a die hard FAN of this team, and as much as I want them to win, I can also see their limitations. I commend believers for being able to maintain faith, but it's also a bit far fetched to think this team is performing anywhere close to championship level.

When I was growing up (back in the old Gibbs days), my father used to call the Redskins the “Heart Attack Skins”. .because they always seemed to come from behind.. it never seemed that easy.. and it was always stressful. It's how this team is. For some reason, it's our fate I think. Fight on, Fight on until you have won!!!! I HAVE FAITH!

If you'll look at my post in another thread, you'll see that "come from behind" is not in Mark Brunell's vocabulary.

And I will always hold hope that Washington will turn things around, but blind faith is something I haven't had in more than a decade.

no, we are not missing the point, we've not lost all hope...but we are realists..and the reality is the skins are an erratic team, without a decent QB.

That's a portion of this forum that will tell you you're not a true fan for that kind of comment. Trust in the demigod Joe Gibbs or DIE!!!

Then there are those who say those of us who believe and have faith (not blind faith) aren't true fans. Because real fans would be more critical

Don't think people like hess, Matty, and myself (among others) don't realize we're not playing well. Or that there are several areas in which we have to improve. But we "believe" it can be done. There are plenty of people who have thrown in the towel. And that's fine, I choose not to be that way.

I could not disagree more.
My son's freshman HS team had a big "come from behind" win last thursday against a vaunted rival. With time RAPIDLY running out, the coach called the often used option play which the QB tossed to the wide out who then beat two tackles and took it to the hole (53 yards). During the last few minutes in the stands, 300ish parents generated the noise of 3000. Do they believe this team is championship caliber? Do we think their perfect? Do we think they don't need changes? No, just an average HS team. We are fans and, as such, refuse to give up. Nothing is gained from trying to pick apart all that is good or can be. Something can be gained from continued support, and teams can be inspired or willed to greatness through others.
It is the same for my Redskins. Believer? Hardly. Fan? Definately

That's getting into a bit of symantics because all believers are inherently fans, but not all fans are believers. And I would imagine that a parent whose kids team pulled off something great like that would go crazy, but I'm also sure most of them don't know enough about the other teams in the league, or the even the inner workings of their kids team to make any kind of educated analysis about it's ability.

I don't really see being a fan as having much to do with the guaging talent or ability of other teams. It is interesting from a projected success standpoint to do so. Just my opinion, but, generally I think if you are a fan, you should look for ways to get behind the team, rather than continually dissect and tear down. That does not mean you look blindly upon their shortcomings. Nor does it mean you put yourself above the coaching staff. Who among us can say they are qualified? This is especially true, considering the success our coaching staff has had. Does Joe and Co think they have a problem? YES! Does Joe have way to much class to air dirty laundry in public? Does Joe realize that to do anything but take the high road is counterproductive? YES. TO continually call out the coaching staff, and second guess same is an asinine display of Jackassery (thanx MK). Being a fan is tough-NOT FOR EVERYBODY

I really must add, with the rigorous rippage of the team and staff that is regularly demonstrated by many of the frequenters of this site, I have to ask, do they REALLY enjoy this? TOO WIERD

-A FAN
