So he'll be around for 3 years or so, meaning we'll get the best of his career if Portis gets injured again. That's a cheap SOLID backup if you ask me. If Betts left next year, we would all be worried if Portis went down, now we don't have to.
Let's not forget, Betts is a great receiver out of the backfield.

I don't like it, too much guranteed money for a guy who has a tendency to get hurt. Do you guys realize how much guranteed money is in this deal? Here is a short quote from ESPN:

"Betts, 28, signed a five-year extension Friday worth $11 million, but the key was in the early payout of the deal. He got $3.5 million in signing bonus money this year and a $2 million roster bonus in 2007. With half of the money going to him early, Betts figured it was the best of all worlds. "

I like Betts, but freakin 5.5 million in guaranteed money? C'mon, we have some pressing needs on defense.
