Re: Kris Jenkins?
I don't think Jenkins is in decline. He has had two significant injuries (one shoulder, one ACL) but he is only 27 years old and b/c of injury has only actually played 4 seasons out of his 6 seasons in the league. That's good and bad. There is the possibility of him truly being injury prone, but that is also 32 less games of physical punishment on the rest of his body.
We'd have to give him an extensive physical/workout, but he started all 16 games last year (he's started all 16 games in each of his 4 healthy seasons), and at 6-4, 335, he is a massive run-stuffer. I am very weary of trading draft picks for free agents, but I'll call this intriguing if we get the 14th overall and the 5th.

We have a squad full of adequate veterans already. What we need to get is some potentially dominant youth. Jenkins strikes me as overrated because his production has slipped in the years that he should have been hitting his prime. Those are the worst possible years to get injuries and can ruin an otherwise solid career. Jenkins isn't ever going to fufill the standard he set for himself in the first four years of his career and while that's hardly his fault at all, it does make him a classic case of an overrated DT.

What you have in Kris Jenkins now if he's totally healthy is an above league average player who could have been so much more. Fortunately for him, some team is going to pay him like what he could have been, and not like what he's going to be. That team won't be the Redskins.

For the record, I'm on the fence with this. I just want improvement with the front four. If he's not on his last legs, and at 27 one would think he's got a fair amount of time left, it would allow us to kill two birds with one stone by drafting a defensive end, which, in my mind is the second most important need this team has to fill. I agree about the infusion of youth, but the coaches don't seem willing to allow youth on the football field except in very rare cases. It does seem like 'more of the same' by bringing in another team's rejects, but he can't be worse than the DTs we have now. If the front office made this move and only had to drop to #14, I could live with that. |

Re: Kris Jenkins?
Here is Jenkins salaries for 07-09:
Jenkins, 27, has three years left on a contract that pays him $3.2 million in '07, $3 million in '08 and $3.7 million in '09. This is reasonable if he is healthy but that is a big if. But when you compare it to what are other big time DL free agents make it is not too bad - especially since he got the huge signing bonus of $9+ million from the Panthers that would not effect the Skins cap. The only problem is every player who gets traded to us wants a new contract but maybe the injuries have reduced his leverage. |

Re: Kris Jenkins?
If the deal is in fact an extra pick and Jenkins for swapping first round positions, that would be intriguing. But I agree that Carolina is unlikely to offer that

The question I have is who would Carolina covet at #6? They are weak at safety (an aging Mike Minter and then maybe Nate Salley?), and if they wanted Landry, he'd be there. I could see it happening, but I don't think they'd give us any additional picks other than the 14th.

Re: Kris Jenkins?
He doesnt wanna be here; I dont want him here
He hates the fans; I dont like him Carolina wants more picks; I dont want us to give up anymore. If he comes here it will be for the money; I am sick of players comming here just so they can get paid! Jenkins is a NO-GO in my book. |
