Re: Can the Patriots beat the Giants?

Can they? Absolutely
Will they? Probably
By the spread? Highly Doubtful if they do in fact put it at 14 or 15

Also, I have to say that I am very relieved with this matchup b/c I would have hated to have to endure the speculation and hype of a GB-NE matchup. As most ppl would agree, the bye week before the superbowl is THE worst week of the year in terms of football. Every negative element of football is magnified during this week...Media hype and manufacturing of story lines, rampant injury speculation, off the field issues, selling out/corporatization of the sport, trash talking, etc. With this matchup of NY vs NE, as opposed to a potential GB vs NE matchup, much of the possible hype has been quelled b/c many ppl have already written off the Giants. Also we have seen this matchup very recently and though it was close, it still yielded the outcome that everyone predicted. The only big manufacturable storyline is the Manning family one (Eli instead of Peyton, etc) and it is one that I can deal with. Also you have the pursuit of perfection angle but as long as NE was in it, this was unavoidable.

Could you imagine having to go through the media frenzy giving us up-to-the-minute coverage of the Favre vs Brady duel (old school vs new school, who is better?), passing of the proverbial QB torch, Superbowl XXXI rematch, America's team debate, and whatever other story anyone with a press pass could concoct?

Fortunately, the Gmen have arguably the best shot of all 31 teams to do this because their d-line is so dominant.
Your right the Giants are the best shot of the 31 teams to beat them in the SB. They are also the only team with a shot to beat them in the SB.

Re: Can the Patriots beat the Giants?

As the roomate of an asshole giants fan I am positive they are going to win. Only so that my misery is exponentially greater as I watch the super bowl with him and he jumps around screaming. The only positive is that they will be underdogs so that i can bet on them and at least get paid for my potential misery. Or best case scenario they cover the spread and still lose the game!

Everyone is sleeping on the Giants. The Patriots have played well (very well at times) this season, but the last few weeks of the season and into the playoffs, they didn't dominate like early on. I think the Super Bowl is going to be a great game. Will the Patriots make history by going 19-0 or will the Giants make history beating the Patriots? I think the Patriots can go undefeated, but I'll also contradict myself and say the Giants have a tremendous chance to beat the Patriots. Just my opinion. Anyone else have any thoughts?
My thoughts are this thread stinks.

It's like reading a post written by Herschel Walker (too soon?)
All I'm trying to point out is everyone thinks the Patriots are going to steam roll over the Giants. I was just throwing different things out there. It's not a "Hershel Walker" thing. When I say everyone is sleeping on the Giants, I mean no one is giving them a real chance. I do believe the Patriots will win, however I wouldn't be surprised if the Giants won with the way they have been playing lately. They have been playing better than the Patriots and Eli has been playing better than Brady. All in all, it's going to be a great game. Is that good enough for ya, SmootSmack?

Re: Can the Patriots beat the Giants?

I believe the Giants actually have a chance to pull the upset if they don't get too far behind early in the game. The Pats were there to be had in Sundays game, save for the ineffectivness of San Diego in the red zone. The Giants running game, and ability to stop the run gives them a chance. Their biggest concern however will be the health of their secondary against the air assult of Brady and the Pats. However, if I were a betting man, I'd have to consider the Patriots.

Re: Can the Patriots beat the Giants?

I don't think the question is "can the Pats beat the G-men" but what week next year will they finally suffer a loss? And pre-season doesn't count. That being said, I hope the Gints put on a show like week 17 so at least I stay entertained between new beer commercials.

Re: Can the Patriots beat the Giants?

As soon as we start to predict an upset to come, the Pats win even bigger. Steelers, Skins, the list goes on.
