When our national debt is over $10 Trillion it's not the time for new(or expanded) social programs and bailouts.

Halving the deficit still means the national debt increases by over $ 500B / yr. SS, Medicare and interest on the national debt eat up over 50% of the U.S. budget. If Obama and the Dems want to leave a legacy and truly change the U.S., they need to stop the wasteful spending, overhaul the tax code, overhaul SS & Medicare, pass a balanced budget ammendment, and any tax increases should be used to pay down the national debt.

Before the lefties yell, what about Bush, Bush increased this and left Obama with that, I'm just stating what needs to be done, not placing blame on any party. The Dems have almost complete control of the Gov't. They have the ability to do the right things.

Thoughts on Obama's speech:

1. This was his best speech to date and this is coming from someone who has seen all his speeches.
2. He felt very comfortable and confidant. It was amazing to see some liveliness from the president.
3. Pelosi should have stood up and clap the whole night. No wonder she's house speaker, she knows how to be a cheerleader. Did she really need to cheer lead the whole god damn night though? I was feeling Biden's pain.
4. What was John Boner doing there? He looked like he had something stuck up his ass and the look on his face was awful.
5. I am very pleased to hear Obama is going to pursue universal health care.
6. It was kinda corny but liked the line "dropping out of high school [is] not just quitting on yourself, it's quitting on your country."
7. What about taxes for single people god damn it?!!! Is the cutoff line 250K for me?
8. Talk is cheap, show me the money and the budget...recovery.gov is garbage. I make better tracking system every time I take a piss.

Thoughts on Jindal's response:

1. It's not fair to compare him to Obama.
2. He tried way-way too hard. His Meet the Press performance was much better.
3. This is a big boy's league. There are limited roster spots -- friends and foes are trying to land a roster spot. You got to bring your A-game. When you intend to run for high office the line between friends and foes is murky.
4. The substance of his entire speech was bullsh*t much like the substance of his Meet the Press appearance. Complaining about funding for volcano detection system is unf*cking inexcusable, especially from a Louisiana official. Might as well have said why spend money shoring up the levies in NO. What I don't understand is whether they do some thinking at all.
5. I didn't think his intended audience was as wide as Obama's. Singing to the base won't cut it anymore. You're in a ditch and you're digging for like minded subscribers? I don't get it.
6. Government is bad, government is bad, government is bad. Uufffff.
7. Congratulation to the nation of India. Slumdog Millionaire was a fantastic movie.

Everyone was pissed off when Bush was running up the debt and the democrats always criticized it, and now they doubled the deficit and want to keep spending more. Now Obama is talking about cutting the deficit in half, right after he doubled it. His goal is to get it down to where Bush had it. The only way he is going to meet the goal is to raise taxes and for the economy to recover, but raising taxes is going to make it harder for it to recover.

The goverment is like a parasite to the economy. All tax money is just money being taken out of the economy, and now the goverment is taking over more and more of the economy, which never works. Politicians do not know how to run businesses. They do things for political reasons, not for the business to be successful. Look what they did to the mortgage industry. The housing crisis is the governments fault.

one interesting note on those two visuals, the 2004 one has the pie split 2 ways - defense and congress and all the rests shoots off of those 2. the 2009 version has defense still separated out, but where congress was now it is just a huge jumble. not sure why the difference, but it does seem like it tries to makes congress less accountable, in a subtle way. also, again my opinion, the 2004 seems like a just the facts display, vs the 2009 one which seems more political

What you're seeing is maturity in visualization approach not politics. Whatever angle you look from the numbers are straight from OMB and speak for themselves.

Really, no politics at all in how the numbers are presented? Come on, one has a HUGE pic of Iraq on the left side the other simply states the expenditures. One has all the non defense expenditures deriving from Congress which is appropriate, the other has lines going all over the place, and does a good job of obfuscation.
all in all its just alot of money going to be spent, and the bottom line is that the government is not going down anytime soon.(which i think was your point when showed it)

So it's okay to accuse high school dropouts of being un-patriotic? What if they dropped out to join the Marines and they're one of the 17,000 troops that President Obama just sent to Afghanistan? Have they quit on the country?
