The Poconos

Thinking of taking my wife there for a weekend sometime this winter but wanted some suggestions on where exactly to stay. Not necessarily what hotel, bed and breakfast, resort, etc. but more so what town.

Also, if neither of us are big into skiing is it still worth it? What are some fun things to do there?

For sure...unless he's planning on taking skiing lessons while there.

Re: The Poconos

We're going somewhere warm in January for a couple of weeks. This would just be a weekend road trip probably sometime in December. Not looking to fly anywhere...and there's no place warm within driving distance of NY in December

Dude this will sound weird but go to Ocean City in Dec. It is a lot of fun and cheap. Plenty of bars open and stuff. Stay at the Hilton in OC as well really nice place with indoor pool and it is cheap in Dec. I have gone a couple times for a getaway weekend and have had a blast every time.

I live about a half hour from the Poconos. It's mostly skiing in the winter I think. They have stuff like tubing or white water rafting on the Deleware but they might just be summer activities. If your an outdoors type of person and in the Poconos this place is really fun...VISITBUSHKILLFALLS.COM :: HOME

Re: The Poconos

Love the Poconos. My wife and I went there for our honeymoon and have gone back two more times since. We always get a cabin, it complete whole atmosphere. Sure there are some fancy resorts and hotels, but I like the whole feel and even smell of a nice cabin. We always get the same one every time we go back, it's actually a cabin with full kitchen, double-sided fireplace in front of the King size bed, a jacuzzi and sauna in the huge bathroom...it's a nice place. Also has a nice swimming pool (probably not open in November though), tennis, basketball courts by it, a walking trail to a pond, a gym in the main office, they rent out videos too. It's a nice place to relax. Not too far away are Bushkill Falls, a ton of state parks, shopping (hope you like candles) and waterparks. Watch out for deer and bears on the road and even around the cabin though!

Pocono Resort Romantic Weekend Getaway Vacation Poconos Family Cottage Lodge

That's where we stay. Reasonable rates too.

We always get the Moutain Retreat, their best cabin for couples. We always request cabin #26, the one we spent our Honeymoon in. It's the green one (in pic).

Naomi Village Cottage Rentals - The mountain retreat cottages.

They also have some that can sleep up to 10 people if going as a group for skiing trips.

We went to Virginia Beach in late September once and it was great. Still warm enough to burn in the sun too, but the rates were dirt cheap and it wasn't crowded.

Love the place.
Its funny I live right down from Va. Beach and all ways wonder what people see in the place. If you want to go to a beach in this area take the extra hour and hit the Outer Banks.

Re: The Poconos

The East Coast beaches during the Offseason (after Labor Day until before Memorial Day) are awesome. September is great because it's still warm, the water is warmer and you pretty much have the beach to yourselves. My wife and I have been down for a week in September two years in a row, and will continue that tradition until our oldest child is in school.

My wife and I try to get a weekend down in OC during March when things first start to open. Great time to get down, do some shopping (No Sales Tax in DE), walk around and just have fun.
