I agree with Bettis, however I think the NFL should punish Smith. When he was asked about the situation, he flat out lied and made excuse for what happened. He should follow Bettis advice:

I don't think Smith should be punished, per se, but he needs to come out and say he went too far before his own players get the wrong idea.
