In a small way I almost feel bad for RG3. He's coming to a bad team that's putting all their hopes on him.... that's going to have to go the free agent route to improve, and be dead on with their draft picks.

Aren't most top 5 players going to bad teams? Thus the reason they are picking first? Kind of a moot point.

He will be fine. I sincerely believe that Kyle and Mike will put the best situation around this guy to succeed. What we get is a prolific QB with a great arm, great vision and good decision making capabilities, both on the field and off. Free Agency will be very important, and we will have to be very smart, and get people on the upswing instead of the downswing.

It will be challenging, but I think that 99% of Redskins fans are more optimistic today about the direction of this franchise than they were just yesterday.

True but most top prospects go to bad teams. Once this deal is finalized on Tuesday we must move on, it's over and done with. Shannahan had to get a QB this year and with manning looking like he wasn't coming here the move had to be made. Will there be a lot of pressure on him, yes you better believe it. Can he handle it?

Yes he can, he is smart kids with a good head on his shoulders.

First: So all the picks they gave away are technically all under the Shanahan regime. They go right up to the end of his 5 year contract, which I think is a bit of coincidence and necessity. I really think Snyder is committed with sticking to just one guy for a while and that he's not on the hot seat this year, even with one more mediocre year (unless it's a bomb like 2-14 or something). So theoretically, it's not in the past where coaches are mortgaging the future for other coaches.

Second: I had some sticker shock when I learned of what they gave up, but then I realized there must of been very high interest from other teams that made them to do this. Hell, latest reports were CLE would match the deal, so I'm sure they were strong in the running along with other teams which we don't know about that drove the price up.

Third: They are very high on Griffen (along with a lot of other people) and they knew their QB situation was bad. The "safe" move I suppose would be to have drafted maybe Tannenhill or sign Orton, spent the other picks continuing to build the "base", and then in the next year draft their highly touted QB. But, they got their guy who is a very good fit for the system of bootlegs and moving around and can finally say they have drafted their franchise QB.

And Most Important:

Fourth: I am really interested to see how they approach Free Agency. This entire emotion behind this move feels like the Redskins of Old . We are posting pictures of RG3 in redskins gear hosting trophies and most of us have already though of that first bootleg roll out when RG3 has plenty of space in front of him. It's another big splash, big move, lots of hype, but who knows what will show up on the field.

I hope they approach FA like they did last year: making solid above average signings for reasonable cash. The only place I see them going overboard is WR. If they go out and get all the big names and bring in a ton of people, I'm not sure if this is really a new way of running the redskins.
I think what this really shows is it's an organization (and fan base) that's desperate and impatient.

True but most didn't possibly mortgage the future.

Or he knows the team traded all that for him which shows him how much the redskins think and trust him.. he's the new face of Washington DC and the redskins. I think I'd be happy w that

Re: Redskins agree to trade for No.2 overall pick in 2012 Draft

This from Walterfootball.com prior to the trade:

"I've been predicting a Robert Griffin trade here ever since the regular season concluded. Adam Schefter reported two weeks ago that the Rams will be dealing this selection. They won't remain in this spot. As intriguing as Matt Kalil might be, they have way too many holes on their roster. This pick is just way too valuable to hold on to.

I had the Browns moving up here in a previous update, and they certainly could be the ones to land Robert Griffin. However, news broke this past week that Mike Holmgren is unwilling to part with the No. 22 pick to move up for Griffin.

This is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Seriously. You're not willing to give a mid-first-rounder for a franchise quarterback? Are you insane? Not only should Cleveland surrender Nos. 4 and 22; it should have to trade its 2013 first-rounder and other mid-round selections in addition to that. That's the price of a franchise quarterback. If the Browns don't understand that, then they'll never be successful, and their fans should just give up.

Daniel Snyder will be desperate to land a franchise signal-caller this offseason. If he can't get Manning, he'll give the green light to outbid the Browns, Dolphins, Eagles and the other teams for Young Griff, who is perfect for Mike Shanahan's offense."

I agree with Walt. The Redskins did the right thing.

Worked out for Eli and the Giants. You have to have an elite QB in this league. Are you saying you'd rather have 3 more picks and a mediocre QB? How has that worked out the last 20 years?! My logic is UNDENIABLE!!!

So what happens if we go 5-11 next year? Which is a real possibility. Then you've got a high pick going to the Rams.

We will go 7-9 as a minimum. I think we have a shot at a wild card.

BFD. If we should happen to go 5-11 next season when RGIII is a rookie, then we'll still probably go 11-5 in 2013 with a more experienced RGIII at QB. You just don't get it, do you?
