They used to be in a relationship together, something happened, he was the girlfriend he was always talking about and then they did not talk, everyone asked and he made up stories about how she was in a car accident and such. In one last desperate attempt to believe this kid and also to believe that he wasnt the most naive person on the planet....is it possible that he did have a four year relationship with an online girl and just exxagerated the extent of it. In other words, he never intended to pursue more than a simple online thingy, but wanted to be one of the guys so bad that he made it out to be a bit more serious than it was?
Edit: all the lies about meeting her n the funeral , etc were just a vain attempt to beef up a so called relationship because he didnt want all his friends that were dating the hot chicks on campus to know he was a virgin who was afraid to talk to women? I mean he does come across as the type of guy who would save himself for his wedding nite.
