wow, you're an idiot

He was the defensive coordinator in Tennessee when they went to the super bowl. They always had a top defense when he was there. Then he built a good defense when he was the head coach in buffalo too.

edit: Here are all his defenses since he first became the defensive coordinator in Tennessee in 1997

......................................Yards Points
1997 Tennessee Oilers........ 22nd. 12th
1998 Tennessee Oilers........ 14th.. 12th
1999 Tennessee Titans....... 18th.. 15th
2000 Tennessee Titans....... 2nd... 2nd
2001 Buffalo Bills................ 21st.. 29th
2002 Buffalo Bills................ 15th.. 27th
2003 Buffalo Bills................ 2nd... 5th
2004 Washington Redskins... 3rd.... 5th
2005 Washington Redskins... 9th.... 9th

He has improved the defenses a lot every place he has gone to.

WTF? Without Williams, the skins miss the playoffs last year and are lucky to win any games the year before that.

I'm saying he's lost his touch this year. C'mon man, we're nearly last in the league in yards/game and pass defense. You think he should win accolades for that? Last year is long gone; it means nothing today.

Come on fellas! This is the third season of Gibb II! This is HIS team. As head coach, he has assembled this staff and this roster! It just ain't working! Gibbs II is now 19-22! Don't hate the players, if anything hate their employer or the coach who wanted them. A good GM might have made a difference.

Last time I saw them play Williams wasn't wearing a jersey. The players on the field have to nut-up.

It's a mighty big leap to say we are now ranked 30th on defense and therefore Williams has lost his touch. How do we know it's not the injury-bug and personnel issues that have caused the defense to suffer? Archuleta and Wright are total busts. Prioleou (our nickel) went down before playing a single snap on defense. Griffin, Salave'a, Springs, Rogers, and Marshall have all been bitten by the injury bug.

If we suck next year on defense, then I'll be prepared to guess that Williams has lost his touch. Until then, I'm not willing to say a guy with Williams' resume has lost his touch based on 9 games in one season.

But you just gave Williams credit for us making the playoffs last year. I know he's a solid coach, but he's having a lousy season. I say when coaching changes come, maybe the year after next, bring in a new, young set of coaches and build for the future.

Re: Stop blaming the coaches especially Greg Williams

OK, those are the defenses I thought we were speaking of. The 2000 Titans defense was ranked 15th. The buffalo Defenses were fairly good, but they lost alot of games. I think calling me an idiot for asking a question, is pretty immature. I am not an encyclopedia. I just wanted a little clarification on what defenses we were speaking of. I am not a tremendous fan of GW's style of defense. We were vulnerable to the big play last year to. I like old fashion defenses that put pressure on the quarter back with the front four. Blitzing is cool, but you cant live on it.

Every team's got injuries, so that's no excuse. But you're right: One year doesn't make a trend. If he sucks this bad next year, he's lost his touch. If he rebounds, forget I ever said he lost his touch.

Not to gang-jump you... but seriously...

There is such a thing as a fluke season. If someone wins 100 superbowls, and then doesn't make the playoffs the next season... do you fire him? Has he "lost his touch".

Your same reasoning could apply to Andy Reid's inept team last year. There were alot of injuries, unfortunate cirumstances, etc... yet he still is a great coach, and in no way lost his touch. I think GW has a very similar situation with his defense.

OK, then. Let's say - for argument's sake - that last year was a fluke season. Maybe we got totally lucky going 10-6 and making the playoffs. Maybe we are a 6-10 team like the 2004 squad. We're certainly headed down that road again.

Re: Stop blaming the coaches especially Greg Williams

The Redskins were missing one player on defense today, Pierson Prioleau. Thats not an excuse. As for Greg Williams great defenses, the last game he coached in Buffalo was a loss(31-0).
Quote:
Gregg Williams paid the price for the Bills' flop this season, losing his job as head coach.

Team president Tom Donahoe, calling this season a regression, believed the only way for the Bills to move forward was with a new coach. So Williams will not be rehired after completing his three-year contract with a 17-31 record, 6-10 this season.

"We just didn't feel we had made enough progress this year," Donahoe said Monday. "We have regressed this year. And I just didn't have the confidence going forward that we could get that turned around."

The record was particularly disappointing for a revamped team Donahoe bolstered by spending about $20 million in bonus money this offseason. After an encouraging 2-0 start, the Bills unraveled, particularly on offense, and ended the season losing seven of the last nine, capped by Saturday's 31-0 loss at New England.

Wow, one time he let up 31 points...he must be total crap....they only had the #2 defense that year. Your little random article without a source even says that their offense was what unraveled.
