Re: How bad is our defense?

We're not very good right now that's for sure, but we are what we are until we can get better. The question becomes, how do we get better? Can GW get the guys we have to play better, or is there a possibility of help from another source? It's difficult to make deals at this time in the season, and there aren't any good players walking the street. It could be we have to suffer with what we have until such time we can do better though that senerio does not offer us much hope for the immediate future.

Re: How bad is our defense?

Getting Shawn Springs back will make a huge difference for us, because we were not able to be ourselves - rushing the passer with such effectiveness, instead having to stay back and protect the corners. The defense has a hard time changing its approach and I think it takes some of the enthusiasm away from the players.

Carlos Rogers isn't developing as fast as I would have liked, but he clearly has extraordinary physical talent and I just think he isn't comfortable yet enough with the Williams defense to play up to his ability.

Obviously we needed to pay more attention to depth at corner. But not only is Springs out but so is Prioleau, leaving Archuleta in on passing downs in a defense he doesn't yet understand.

These problems really show up against a team with outstanding receivers like the Giants have.

Hopefully we will pull up to 3-3, our team will become all the more focused on being comfortable in the scheme, maybe through simplification like the Giants did, Springs will come back in a few weeks, and we will make another late run at the playoffs.

Next year will be our Super Bowl chance - this year it looks like the Bears will at least be the heavy favorites for the NFC.

Hope is on the way. Pray for Springs to heal fast!

We acquired TJ who should have been implemented by now to combat and be payback to their defense in the same way Jacobs can take so much fight and energy out of defenses. This game was it. unless the team can finish 11-0,10-1,9-2,8-3 the season is over and the way it is shaping hopefully we save face and make it to 8-8. Will this team should we drop too far out, finally sit Mark down and publicly blame him in this act and invest in Jason ??? I do think all this will come to pass.
I agree with the run game analagy totaly my friend. Seemed like some plays Pierce wasn't even accounted for. Yet we still have these guys and the Boys at home, Tenn next week, we are just fine. Offense is learning still. D is HORRID. I know it's a stupid statement to talk of learning after what we did to Jaguars, but that was a home game, and our minds are always elsewhere in NY for some reason!!! I AM ANGRY!!..I dont think J. Cambell is not an answer at this point though. GW needs to re-evaluate his system with vs his talent. At least he stopped safety blitzes. Who knows what the answers are, but my finger is pointing to greg at the moment.

You shouldnt look for an answer, this season is done. unless we go:
11-0
10-1
9-2
8-3
Now does anyone even think the "Redskins" aren't destined to be the laughing stock of the league finding new and innovative ways to choke and disappoint???????

I believe they are the Redskins. And they do what Redskins do. Redskins talk the talk and walk and get raped by bonga bonga.

Not very good. No pass rush. Bad coverage by the secondary. Mediocre tackling.

Right now, it looks like to of our big signings are busts.

Re: How bad is our defense?

Can we all accept the fact that no one is going to trade us even a decent nickel-back at this point in the season? This is not fantasy football. We're stuck with the ones we have. No team that has decent corners is going to give us one in exchange for our third (possibly fourth?) running back. Help is not on the way. The only team foolish enough to allow top-flite corners to get away is the Washington Redskins.

Yes. At least when he gets beat it's close. Do they even use him on defense or is he purely special teams right now? A little help?

The D is fckn BRUTAL.

I've never seen such a shtty secondary. Taylor can't play the long ball, Rogers can't cover or catch the ball, and they're the 2 best guys we have back there!

If they try, the Colts might score 100 on us.

Regroup, Tenn. is in trouble!!!! I believe we are in a great position right now. Yes i know, cellar, but home games are home games. We win our home games vs East and we on top. I'm just glad we have gotten ssomething going at all this year already with this complex Offense. hang in there guys. The show is about to START soon.

Im bummed out about how they played against the G-men but your optomism helps me to remember the season isnt over.

Re: How bad is our defense?

I think someone else mentioned it, but Carlos Rogers scares the hell out of me. He evidently was only good last year because he was covering the #2 guy or backing up Springs. Half the time I see the opposing team make a grab or a long run, Rogers is somewhere trying to catch up. And Archuleta isn't far behind him.

Taylor even looked bad today - but what do you expect when he has to basically man the entire secondary himself because Archuleta, Rogers and whoever the 4th back of the moment is are trying to figure out what a football looks like.

Is it just me or does anyone else have nightmarish flashbacks to Tom Carter when seeing Carlos Rogers? Anyone else remember TC? Highly touted first-round pick back in '93. Supposed to be the heir apparent to Darrell Green as the next great Redskins CB. Man, what a waste he was.

I really hope the same doesn't end up being the case for Rogers

Sadly, Brunell reverted to his form of the first two games today. He had at least two passes that should have been picked but were not. And the O-line played poorly too. The only player on "O" who stepped up was Cooley.

The "D" didn't play well either, but they still held one of the league's best offenses to 19 points and 1 TD.

On a lot of days, that should be enough to win. But not when your offense can't do squat.

Today, the Skins didn't play with any fire or passion, unlike last week. Hard to stomach when you're playing an important divisional opponent.
I blame the offensive game plan more than the offensive players. The Giants secondary has been reeling all year, yet Gibbs/Saunders didn't try to exploit that. They even deactivated Patton, who could have helped in 4 WR sets if Gibbs really wanted to challenge that secondary. Also, please don't let our defense off the hook. Yes, they only gave up 19 points, but they couldn't get the Giants offense off the field on numerous 3rd down plays. I don't believe the Giants even had a punt until the 4th quarter. We cannot win if we allow such a disparity in time of possession, and don't take advantage of turnovers to be had (Rogers dropped INT - yet again, Taylor strip recovered by NY).

I would say he looks more like Daryll Pounds at this point. Tom Carter could at least cover the deep post.
