They should have, and I do agree with you there.

Now if Payne gets traded and we get an extra pick, I'd probably like it more because he would be a starter at that point. But as of now he's a backup rotational piece. That's not good enough at 47 for a 7 win team.

The 2022 Washington Commanders draft thread
Quote:
Oh I don’t think it is a bad pick at all. I love solid depth especially in the trenches. Its where we picked though. It is the thought that we could have dealt Payne for picks, made Settle a starter, and used the 2nd round pick elsewhere. We would be better off. It is like someone said, they seem to be making it up as they go along. |

Totally agree with this. Ill add though that on top of the Payne for picks aspect, Settle could have been the starter and that second round pick is freed up. I can’t really make too much sense of that whole scenario- even if we keep Payne - than yeah this guy could be talented as hell but 47 for a part time player is meh. |

Re: The 2022 Washington Commanders draft thread
"Ron Rivera wants to build up lines/keep strong; they rotate their DT's quite a bit so Mathis wouldn't just be a "backup." Doesn't mean they have to trade Payne. Need a quality rotation. But if they keep Payne and he leaves after '22? You have two dudes.
I'm a big Brisker fan and I know they liked him. So to pass on him and take Mathis says something. As always, time will tell.." - Keim |

Dotson also surprised he was drafted early
https://www.si.com/nfl/commanders/ne...jahan-dotson-2 If you’re going to reach for a player, it should be a QB. |

Re: The 2022 Washington Commanders draft thread
They should trade up in the 3rd and snag Dean.

Re: The 2022 Washington Commanders draft thread
At this point, I’m hoping not to hear our 3rd round pick tell the media he and his agent expected him to be picked in the 5th or 6th round. I don’t know whose asking that question, or advising the players to disclose that.

Re: The 2022 Washington Commanders draft thread
You know things are bad when teams are willing to roll with Drew Lock, Sam Darnold, and Mariota.
