How is LaRon Landry progressing?

Looking at LaRon on a game-by-game basis , what has everyone noticed in his play? Just curious because there has not been a lot of talk about him, with everything else that has been happening with the team... Is he comfortable in his role? (was'nt he a FS in college?)...is he on the same page with Sean Taylor and do they communicate? Just wondering as live out of state and do not get to see the daily shows and hear the reports in regards to the skins.

Re: How is LaRon Landry progressing?

Good thread, I was wondering the same thing the other day. The best I can gather so far is that he knows his place and isn't getting in the way. Mainly I look at how good Sean Taylor is doing this year and compare it to how he struggled so much last year-a big reason being that he and Arch were never comfortable together. Landry and Taylor seem to be working much more efficiently together.

And I think Landry is more comfortable adapting and ceding the spotlight to Taylor than Arch probably ever was.

You almost have to cede the spotlight to S.T when you are the Rookie, but at the same time. Landry is not being asked to to anything more than his own job. He is fast, is a hitter and seems to be a pretty good cover man. As Gibbs would say, he is also "Super-smart"

He's doing a great job. I think Taylor and Laron have a chemistry and I also think Taylor is in much better physical shape this year. He is approaching safety like a balk hawk not a linebacker trying to knock someone out.

Even though I'm sure we'll all agree I do miss those hits........

Re: How is LaRon Landry progressing?

excellent responses...I love LaRon's ferocity when he approaches the line to hit somebody..it's like he has a quiet intensity about him...and from what i can see, his performance allows Taylor to hang back and do what he did in college..Assuming that was the plan , taylor took it upon himself to re-sculpt his body so he could roam the secondary..smart move on his part. I think LaRon will keep getting better and better. Are opponents talking about him yet?

I love the way Williams is deploying the safeties, allowing each to play to their strengths. Landry is already very good, and someday will be great. Williams hasn't blitzed much in recent weeks, but you can bet that he has some blitz packagers featuring Landry in coming weeks.

my point exactly (especially concerning taylor)...Laron seems comfortable. in his college clips he was always on a tight end or slamming somebody crossing the middle it seemed. and Taylor is a natural ballhawk..at Miami one year he had , i think, 10 interceptions..plus 2 in the orange bowl - both on long range passes...I had to laugh at Brett Favre trying to test us deep..his passes seemed to tail off and Sean taylor was there EVERY time waiting..I agree with the assessment of Gregg Willliams' strategy..

Re: How is LaRon Landry progressing?

I think Landry's presence is felt by way of his absence. Landry will likely become an impact player. But, for now, I'm glad that I don't see a lot of him because that means that he is, at the very least, doing his job. By doing his job, Taylor is able to make plays and we don't have to see our SS getting blown past by some receiver deep down the middle of the field.

Re: How is LaRon Landry progressing?

Very well, for a rookie.

He's being moved all over the field as a rookie and is doing a good job. His lane discipline against the run is lacking at times...but he is a safety after all.

A good cover guy and a sure tackler. I think the big plays will come as he learns the nuances of the professional game.

Re: How is LaRon Landry progressing?

Taylor's play is night and day from last year. Can we say Arch Deluxe sucked?
Landry is doing his job in the box and Taylor is being the ball hawk.
I was against drafting him because I wanted a DE, but he is panning out so far.

Re: How is LaRon Landry progressing?

The 2 biggest reasons the defense is back to it's dominant play are London Fletcher and Laron Landry. London is the defensive quarterback and Landry allows ST to roam and also provides excellent run support. He is only going to keep getting better. We have the potential to have 3..yes 3 pro bowlers in our secondary with Landry, Taylor and Rogers..maybe not this year but maybe next.

Re: How is LaRon Landry progressing?

I agree Landry has been playing very well. However, Rogers is nowhere near Pro Bowl caliber - I have been very disappointed in his play.

Re: How is LaRon Landry progressing?

I think by the fact that you don't hear the names of Landry and Springs, they are doing a great job. I was thinking about this the other day during the game. You almost wouldn't know that Springs or Landry are playing (and that's a good thing). Teams are throwing to Rogers side, which Rogers has played very strong too. It shows how much our defense has improved over last year.

Re: How is LaRon Landry progressing?

Great thread.

I think the fact that he doesn't really have much to brag with respect to stats is a great sign of the success of this defense. Our d-line and linebackers are doing there job, and making tackles. ST and the corners are doing there jobs, so they have INT's.
