According to this site, the range of punishment is 2-20 years, although probation is an option as long as the the convict serves 120 days in jail. Intoxication Manslaughter in Texas, Jail Time, Fine, and Punishment This Brents 2nd offense, and a judge could choose to make an example out of him. However, i would imagine his contrition, the fact that the victim was his best friend, and victims family seems to have forgiven him could make a judge more likely to show some leniency.

I agree Matty. Having empathy for someone doesn't mean you condone what they've done. Some seem to take it that way. We've all made mistakes.....a lot of us were fortunate enough to not have the same consequences for our mistakes as others.

Based on limited available evidence, Brent is truly remorseful for his actions. I doubt he will ever drink and drive again. I mean, if you were driving drunk and killed your best friend in the whole world, probably watched him die, would you drink and drive again?

Re: Cowboys DT charged with Intoxicated Manslaughter
Regardless of whether RGIII or Cousins plays, we're going to find out alot about this team on Sunday. In years past, this would be a "trap game" where we played down to the level of the opponent. I shouldnt even say years past, becuase we played down to Carolina and lost to them. Good teams beat up the bad teams. Cleaveland and Philly arent horrible, but they arent good either. If we are a good team, we'll beat both of them fairly easily.

Totally agree with the real punishment thing, but if the judge wants to make an example its going to be with a dude who has done it twice.

Re: Cowboys DT charged with Intoxicated Manslaughter
My friend, a former police officer, just did a 5 year stint for Drunk driving - forget the exact charge. He did not kill anyone but there were people that got hurt. I was under the impression that in alot of states - drug possession and dui carried as much time as did rape or certain degrees of pedophilia?

Re: Cowboys DT charged with Intoxicated Manslaughter
He's got a drinking problem. I wouldn't throw the book at him but he absolutely needs to be REQUIRED to be in rehab.

Re: Cowboys DT charged with Intoxicated Manslaughter
I don't have a problem with them throwing the book at him for his third DUI I have a problem with them charging him with killing Brown. He got in the car on his own knowing Brent had been drinking and was drunk. That's what I have a problem with.

Everyone knows the risks of getting into a car with a drunk driver. Brown paid the ultimate price for his decision. Brent needs to pay his. Btw, that doesn't mean lock him up forever, or maybe not even locking him up at all, but someone died that night, there has to be some sort of punishment for that. Plenty of people die accidentally everyday. This case is no different.

Re: Cowboys DT charged with Intoxicated Manslaughter
Every word in your post was bs, which is why i posted that. I think you realize i was being sarcastic and pointing out the sheer stupidity of your assertion that someone who commits intoxicated manslaughter should be in prision for life.
